Thief 2 lockups & co. - by shotgun

The new CoSaS had me installing it again. I get two problems, mysteriously:
Either a 'memory could not be read' error as soon as it finishes loading a mission, or - if I'm lucky and it does load the mission - it would hang up in a second or two. When it is the former, mouse-overing the menus results in corrupted images. I could not deduce why one time one error, and then another.
I'm using winXP
v1.18 patch - check.
'safe_texture' thingy - check.
latest nvidia drivers - check.
4gigz RAM - hell yea check.
I checked the FAQ and I hope this post is valid here. Help please?

Do you have a dual-core processor? You may be experienceing a form of crash from that (Thief can only run on single processors so you need to tell it to- see the faq at the top of this forum)

Thanks for the reply. I do indeed have duel-cpu (duh) and it fixed -- although it only carries through the FMs. Thief2 still quits with a memory error message and shows some corrupt menu items during mouse-over. Any ideas?
