Ah, yes, I have tried that.
With the same results as installing it the regular way, nothing.

So wait, copying all the files manually still provides nothing? You can't run THIEF2.EXE after installing manually?

Yes, it gives me the same problem as if I were doing an ordinary install, same conditions, it simply wont move past the install, not under the
E:\setup.exe -lgntforce
nor under the Installer control panel, or the manual install either.
My Win XP Home Edition is an OEM Disc, I just simply am at a loss as to find a way to install it on this computer for now.
I think this may be the case for any older game I have as well, as I have mentioned I have tried to install a game called "Dust" and that as well did the same thing as the Thief 2 install. Same conditions, with one minor exception, with the task manager window I never saw the Thief 2 setup install, but when I have tried "Dust" I did see the setup, but got the error message about the 16 bit dos subsystem being unstable. I did a bit of research and found it to be a virtual device problem. Which I think could be related to the two install problems, In my own opinion.
I do thank all for their help and patience in this matter. I will keep researching this matter to find more answers and hope I can find a solution someday.
Thanks again for everyones input and help and advice.

You don't try to run setup after a manual install... You are copying the game files over yourself. You copy the files over, adjust the darkinst.cfg file as it says in the tutorial, and then you should be able to run Thief2.exe. If you need to tweak video settings for it to run right after you've copied the files over there are all sorts of threads to help you out with that around.

No, cant not install it at all. I have tried everything, nothing seems to work. I even tried to fix the 16 bit dos subsystem and that did not work as well.
:confused::confused::confused:

At this point we aren't asking you to install it. Copy the files over as described in that post above to your hard drive. You don't need the installer at all.

sorry, acutally, it is what I have tried to do, it did not help in either case. It just simply wont pick it up for some unknown reason.
I will stick with my original plan, I am going to re-build my old system and put it on that system. What I will try to do is to pull it from that system and just copy it to this computer that is giving me problems and see if it may work that way.
I have been through all the instuctions and help options people have provided me, but it just does not seem to want to work.
