Stath was talking to the previous poster, Stalloween.
I was indeed. I'm afraid I don't have a clue about your problem, Scott. :(

You have tried running the setup program with -lgntforce right?

I have tried both, what happens is when I set the disc into the CD/DVD ROM, it does give me the Install Panel screen, but when I click into it, both ways, with or with the -lgntforce command, the Cd/DVD Rom just stops, period. No activity.
I have mentioned to the IT guy within my firm, and he recommended that I look into the services. Perhaps I can one at a time and see maybe if it is something from the process' that does that. Or it could be the Windows Installer itself.
I have a few more things to check into to see if it would help.
thanks.

Try setting the compatibility tab for the setup program to Windows 98.

I think you should not install via this "Install Panel", but by starting
setup.exe from CD 1. You should put the CD into the drive, and if the Install Panel appears,
close it. Then, start setup.exe with the -lgntforce switch. For example, you can open a command line window (I hope it's called that in English) and type "
setup.exe -lgntforce" (without quotation marks, of course). The installation program should start now.
If that does not help, tell us
which disc is not recognized. I guess you're speaking of the
first CD in a two CD set. This one should not give you much trouble.
If, however, the
second disc is not recognized properly by the
game, it could be a problem with the copy protection, which is only present on disc two (at least with my version of
Thief 2).

I have a feeling I think I may know what it is now. I think it may be the 16 bit system problem. I have tried to install an older game disc, called Dust, it tells me this error,
"The request to end the selected 16 bit task has timed out. The Win 16 subsystem may be unstable. Press ok to terminate the Win 16 Subsystem or cancel to leave running." (this may be my problem)
I have a feeling this may be the same problem with my Thief 2 CD install as well.
"I think you should not install via this "Install Panel", I have only tried this because the other way, by bypassing this install and executing the "-lgntforce switch" did not work for me as well.
Anyone know how to fix the Win 16 bit subsystem?
:(:(:( Thanks

I don't believe any of the Thief game installers use a 16-bit installer.
1) Open the CD-ROM in My Computer (Right click on the CD drive, click 'open')
2) Find setup.exe, right click on it and press 'Properties'
3) Click the 'Compatability' tab
4) Choose 'Windows 98' compatability

No, tried that way to and it did not seem to work as well. One question, isnt Thief 2 suppose to show up in the windows task manager processes when doing an install?
For some unknown reason this does not seem like so easy a fix, no matter what I do it just wont seem to pick up on the Install once the disc is inserted.
:confused::confused::confused:
Thanks for all the help, but I am just going to give up trying to install Thief 2 on this computer. I am just going to re-build my old system and throw it on that system once I get it finished.
thanks again
