I am currently at a loss as how to proceed with a Thief 2 Installation. I have read the FAQ's in seeking help for this and have come across a paragraph that states that in may take up to an hour for my computer to recognize and to install Thief 2.
For some very odd reason, it does not. I have left it on and have come across no installation setup at all. This is something very new to me. I have done and installed Thief 2 a number of times on different computers with little to no problems at all. I have even gone as far as burning the discs to an image file with the same results. It simply will not pick up the disc at all. I know the CD/DVD Player works. I have tried other discs with an install and it seems to work fine, just the other day I had installed an HP Deskjet 8000 printer with no problem.
I would like to request anyone who has come across this before and have found another way around this problem. I would very much like to play these FMs again as I just have recieved the Discs that I have requested from Komags site with all the FM's on them.
I find it really odd that my computer will not even recognize the Thief 2 Install disc at all. So I am at a great loss as to how to find a way to install this Thief 2 CD, all the Discs are Originals and I believe it is the 1.18 version of these discs.
My computer information is as follows.
This is a custom built computer, built from scratch with all parts and componets included by me. I have built it from barebones.
Intel Core 2 Quad @2.66
3.25 GB of Ram
NVidia GeForce GTS 250
Atapi iHas122 8 DVD Rom Drive
160 GB IDE HD
Sound Blaster Audigy
XP Home 32 Bit Edition
It seems to work without problems with other CD's, seems to recognize them with no problem.
If anyone has a solution, or someway to get around this so I can install this Thief 2 CD so I can play FM's once again, please let me know.
Thanks in advance. :erm::erm::erm:

Any error messages? What exactly occurs as you try to install it?

There is no message error at all. It simply wont register on the CD/DVD Rom when I put it in. I can read all the info on it, when I browse the CD/DVD, but it simply does not pick it up at all, meaning it wont even spin, or light.
Though for some odd or unknown reason, it knows it is there.

Howdy Taffers,
Please forgive me for interrupting this but I haven't been in here for over 1 1/2 years and have forgotten proper protocol.
Also, I haven't played Thief in at least that long, bought a new pc and have tried to install Thief 2 and DarkLoader so I can play the wonderful FM I remember. Am running into a problem. I get the message "cannot find Thief 2.exe" and I don't know what to do. I am not a pc pro so be gentle please. I see Thief 2 Application in the files and did a Search and I can't find it either. Where is it supposed to download from...the original game or?
I really wanted to dig into these games but here I sit with my arrows primed, toes tapping quietly and hoping someone will take pity on me...S:sweat:

Alright, it sounds like you are using a broken shortcut, so, assuming you installed it to the default directory, go to C:\Program Files\Thief2 then search within it to find the Thief 2 application. Then create a new shortcut for it and drag it to the desktop. Hope that works.

Actually, it wont even install, no error, no nothing at all. I have never installed Thief 2 it on this computer at all.
Though now I think I may have an answer, took me a while to think about it. I realized it perhaps some hours later not knowing if it would or shoud, or perhaps, could make a difference.
On my computer, I have my CD/DVD Rom drive set differently then my other computers, it is connected via SATA cables. On my older computers it was usually connected via IDE cables.
I am pretty sure this may make a difference. hopefully someone out there can tell me if it does. Even though the SATA drive wont install it, it does see it once I go though windows explorer and view the contents of the CD ROM.
Could someone tell me if this does make any difference at all?
thanks again. :erm:

My SATA drive has no problems reading the Thief cd, or any other older cd's, so IDE vs. SATA shouldn't make any difference.
