I'm really wondering whether others have the same problem. I am an expert at getting thief to start on almost any system, but this time I am shocked.
This is what I run:
Core 2 Quad q9550 (with fix)
two HD 5850 in crossfire (disabled off course)
Vista 64 bit
The Problem:
I install Catalyst 10.6 and go into Thief 2, equipped with all fixes and ddfix. When I get to the main menu, the turning gears animation runs for 1 second and the computer freezes. No error message, no alt+tab, no Ctrl+Alt+Del, only restart via case button. This happens as well with other older games like Swat 4 or Neighbors from Hell. Newer games like Starcraft 2 or Bad Company 2, or all Valve games run fine.
I tried a lot of thing until finally I reverted to 10.5 and all games including Thief ran fine. I waited for 10.7 to come out, only to be greeted by the same issue. I used the feedback service many times to describe the issue. When 10.8 came out I decided to reinstall Vista and go for the new drivers. But the problem stays the same.
I wonder whether everyone has the same issue. Please share. Even if you run Thief 2 fine under Catalyst 10.8 it will give me a clue that something else is wrong here.

I've a Core i3-530 with 4GBs of RAM, Windows 7 64 bit and an Asus HD5770 running Catalyst 10.8. I've installed Thief 2 - the first Sold Out version - with patches and FlipTib, and it appears to be working fine.
