First:
I'm new here so: Hello everyone.
I got this tiny little problem. I have found this in troubleshooting:
Quote:
Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played.
If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 applied you may want to check out this page at Microsoft, which includes an update that has reportedly fixed video problems with the Thief games.
I have exactly the same problem, except I have SP2. I just cant handle the problem. I've already been on dosens forums, faqs etc - no solution.

Already tried this. I reinstalled the game, patched it, installed ddfix - when i choose 'New Game' I set difficult level, can read my goals. When I click 'continue' he's loading, loading, loading... and hangs (just in the moment when the movie should start).

From the FAQ........................

1. Download and install the indeo 5 codec - (

2. Click start, then run and type the following " regsvr32 ir50_32.dll "

That part of the problem definitely makes me thinking of a thing I read in a DromEd tutorial... When you use the Thief II editor (and not Thief I gold one) you must add the "edit_screen_depth 16" line at the end of the file "user.cfg", in order to get proper textures.
Here's the link to the tutorial (it's in french but if you don't understand you can anyway look at the pic and check if your textures look the same...)

Good luck, fellow ahnvae! I hope it'll be helpful...
