If you shoot an arrow through the glass doors in the Lower Hall at the key in the side-door it will then unlock. You can then open that side-door from the corridor that leads from the Aides Room . Remember to pick up the key that you shot, when you exit the corridor, which will now have fallen on the floor.

That sounds so easy......I feel stupid for not trying the very obvious.
Thanks for straightening me out Sagittal

Pleased to help Dawggon! I never worked the key thing out when I played it first time and I needed to check the forum!
Nothing is that easy in this FM but it is soooo good :D

While I have you on the phone Sagittal, maybe you can also help me here:
In the wine cellar where you find the drunk guard and all those barrels, I know you have to nudge a barrel, or so I've read, to find a secret. I've yet to find the barrel and have spent far too much time looking. I need an out-right spoiler.
My take:
Silly me, unlike many of the players, I especially liked the beginning chapter of finding my way through the rocks and crevices until I came to, ta-da, the bridge overlooking the magnificent castle. The music here was thrilling. It was all trial and error with lots of reloads.
This is the most beautifully crafted FM. Also, Zontik's use of Wagner's music was so fitting for this era and locale...perfection!
True, this is a very frustrating FM without hints as to what to do or where to go, and without this forum, most of us here would have, or did, throw up their hands and called it quits. This FM is very time consuming and I know that most people don't have that much free time to play an FM of this caliber. It is so not typical of Thief FM's. It's in a class all its own.

I think you have to nudge an area on one of the long walls in the cellar IIRC - I dont remember having to move a barrel.
I haven't tried to replay KS yet with New Dark but I hope to when I get some time.

Sagittal is right, that secret can be found along one of the outer walls.

Thank you Sagittal and jiansonz for your help. I'll try that and see what happens.

So, I'm having an issue with mission 2, playing on normal (Sorry if this is a repeat problem/bug, but I didn't want to read a multi-page thread and spoil myself)
I got the scroll that says that there's a key in the hot water tank. So I went after it, but EVERY. SINGLE. TIME, once I'm half-way down, the "don't let anyone find bodies" objective fails... BUT, here's the thing: if I run around, the objective doesn't fail. I went in, failed, re-loaded, ran around for a half-hour, nothing. Went back and BAM, failed once I was half-way down.
Here's the OTHER thing: On my stats screen, it DOESN'T mention that any bodies were found, or that anyone randomly died.
... Am I supposed to turn off the hot water somehow? And if so, why doesn't the game just kill me, why does it fail the Don't kill/let bodies be found objective?
[EDIT] NEVERMIND... following up on that last sentence did the trick... though why would jumping into hot water count as failing that one objective?

New problem. Where, EXACTLY, SPOILERS PLEASE, NO VAGUE HINTS, is the maul, and how do I use it?
I'm stuck on the first floor until I can find it, it seems.
This mission is starting to cheese me right off =( Playing on Normal.
I'm 5 seconds away from opening this mission in dromed and deleting all the doors >_>
[EDIT] of course I found it after I posted. Nevermind.
For future reference: There's 2 bedrooms in South Wing that share a bathroom. It'll be under the clock in the eastern-most room. It's a giant hammer.
