Now if someone could give me explicit instructions on how to find all the secrets and the happy ending, I'll be really happy.:thumb:
All in due time :)

I actually finished the game! A poor showing of $2518 out of $3333 5 hrs. 41 min. with 5 secrets found.
Only one puzzle I figured out on my own. The "ark".
Using trial and error the potion came together. Actually everything was trial and error, reload, reload, reload, reboot, etc.
Couldn't have finished it without the valuable help of these good taffers. After finishing the game I read through the 20 page posting and realized the same questions were being asked again, and again.
To me, it played like an old Gabriel Knight game, or Gothic, etc., where you have to join things together to complete a puzzle. Took away the good old Thief feel.
It stands alone on its own merit; intelligently and precisely constructed and a beauty to behold.

Canetoad, did you ever get the following doors unlocked?
- door in East Wing leading into the room you can rope arrow up to near the start
- door between Rm 25 and Rm 22 (In Rm 25 the door's covered by a curtain I think)
- door at top of south tower - with ladder nearby. Must go through to the Singer Hall gallery.
No key or lockpick I had worked on them.
Regarding the book: Were you able to read the title? M. Scrench. "Patriot"
Means little to me but wondered if we all see the same? Maybe some fellow taffer will crack it :tsktsk:

If you are playing on an easier level, some of the doors have a key for them.
Not all of them though.
King's Bedroom - Door behind King's Office
2x Rooms on the ground level with Music notes have no key either.

I was never able to unlock that one myself, but
someone else eventually opened it for me.

Thanks bob_doe_nz and Little_Dragon.
That makes some sense - with the south tower door - as I felt I had opened it at some point.
I wonder if it was the kitchen worker with the letter for the Chamberlain who unlocked that door for you Little_Dragon - I never let him get that far to find out :sly:

This is the only one I can tell you about at the moment as my saved games vanished and I don't have the castle map again (yet).
I think that key is called Gallery Key and you find it
on the mantlepiece of the living room of the guy who lives near the gatehouse motor. (Not the engineer with the mouse, the other one who lives at the front, with the little balcony).*On edit:

From memory, this one is called
Balcony Key and it's in the shape of a musical treble clef. Can't remember exactly where I found it, but I do remember coming OUT of that door - not entering it past the ladder lying in the corridor. I'm almost certain the key is to be found behind the door and at some stage you reach it by another means.
The book on the low shelf in the library - yeppers. That's what I saw too.

Go back to the elevator shaft by the kitchen after the
"So much blood" camvator sequence. One chap has a bandage on his head if you knocked him out.

Oh great, thanks Canetoad!
I went back and found the Gallery key - on Allegro - in the Chamberlain's apartment as you said.
You were right about the Balcony key - on Allegro - as well found in the storeroom on a stool right of the stage in the Singer Hall.
Regards the book good to know you're seeing the same thing as me at least :thumb:
Real pain about the saved games - I had reinstalled another FM when I read your post and I feared the worst but all was well so it must just be when going back to the OMs maybe? Thanks fior the warning anyway.
Doug, for the gas arrow look up as you go up the water tower stairs for a possible location :thumb: I think that's the only one in the mission.
