Maga: Go to the boiler room above the stables. You see the fire burning in the furnace? Put it out with a water arrow. Then climb the stairs to the top, jump in the water, and find the key on the bottom.

It's amazing how two people can play the same FM and have such polar opposite impressions. .

I was genuinely surprised by this as well after reading Unkillable Cat's and Sneaky Jack's reviews/posts. We all seem to care passionately about the game but I was unaware that the range of playing styles and what we like in a mission can be so different.
What motivated me to keep going after I'd fallen into several ravines and had to reload looking for the right path is hard to say but Mission 1 had something fresh and interesting about it that made me think the trials were going to be worth it. And they were for the mostpart. (I wont forget that small lock at the castle backdoor in a while though!). I appreciate this isn't everyone's idea of fun and I agree for those looking for a more definite path the map was no guide really. The route does become more obvious later in the mission for those still thinking about playing it.
I think Unkillable Cat suggested starting the Mission Pack at the Castle and missing out the mountain mission might be a good idea. However, if anything I think the frustrations would be even worse, ie not being helped with clues on how to progress, although the number of reloads may be reduced? More clues and reducing the challenge may make it accessible to more players - maybe reducing the interest for some - but above all Zontik seems to have had a very specific vision in mind for his creation and I for one respect that.
I found both missions challenging, stunning and totally absorbing (mission 2 especially) but maybe Kings Story regrettably is set to prove the saying that you cant please all the people all the time.

What a great mission sequel, it´s been almost two years since i last visited this Castle in Germany, now i have the chance to return to this castle again in thief 2 version;), and have the chance to explore the whole castle without having any security guard annoying me :D, i´m in the second part of this sequel, and now i´m stuck, my last progress was to get a shoes polisher, what can i do with it? and there´s so many closed doors wich i can´t open, can´t wait to explore the rest of this well done Castle.

The shoe polish will be used on
the frobbable horse in the stable once you get the key to get in there. It is part of the objective to trap the doctor.

Regarding one of the secrets:
How come the Easter Egg cannot be activated further on in the mission, but it can be triggered earlier? Is there a reason for this, cause it means for those that miss it, are gonna have to replay an large part from a earlier save just to get it. I am assuming the 'potion' can be used on the werewolf at the end, so why is it only triggerable part of the time?

Fraid I can't help with
Easter Egg as I've failed to activate it myself.
Regarding the
potion - your assumption is good - and you will know when to use it ;)
The game prevents you from trying to use it too early - if I understand your question - and although some have had bugs with it I think mainly it is 'usable' when needed.
SneakyJack on 14/4/2010 at 20:25
Once you reach the point where the potion is needed I believe it will be one of the only things left in your inventory. If I remember correctly, at that point I cycled through my items and found that everything else had disappeared and I only had a health potion and that potion left.
So its pretty hard to miss the point of its use :laff:

All my kudos have been given to Zontic for this fantastic, brilliant game. What a delight to explore this beautiful castle. I remember playing Gabriel Knight where this castle was featured and having the same reaction.
I am playing the dummy level:
My objection is having to spend 1 hour frobbing every sq. mm in the library...on just one bookcase, so I don't want to hear how you find things by going slow and easy. It has been almost impossible to highlight the one book long enough to see if it does anything, or has anything to read.
If some kind taffer will give me a hint how to do this, I will applaud him/her. Maybe I am not in the sequence it is to be played? Let me know.
I have played this far and have not encountered a scene for me to go to the stables where I can
see the Dr. Again, I might be playing out of sequence.
This may have been answered, but there are 18 pages to read through, and I draw the limit.
:grr::grr::grr: pms mood

I played Part 1 on Largo and had fun with it. It only took about 45 minutes to play, and following the path came fairly naturally for me. The only times where I got held up were backtracking to find the sword, cutting the tree trunk instead of trying to rope arrow into it (I couldn't make the nearby jump for a long time for some reason), and the various alarms at the end (loved the puzzle). I appreciated the constantly changing soundtrack, it kept the trek fresh. In response to those who say that Part 1 is just superfluous, I hold that without Part 1 you would lose that sense of wonder you get from the first distant views of Neuschwanstein. In the meantime, you get your water arrows stocked and you get to navigate on some cool-looking slopes. The "path" shouldn't be immediately obvious or even appear to exist, it's a mountain and not a road. I only failed the objective during tumbles down the cliffs, most of which killed me anyway. Based on the King's letter I found in Part 2 (not done yet), I guess that the odd werewolf sequence has some actual plot significance. At least it gives the letter a bit more perspective. If you can't bring yourself to enjoy Part 1, CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + END.
BTW: Was anyone able to get over the fence w/ the rabbit? I tried to ignore the warning but gravity didn't allow it and I couldn't find a crate.
