It's amazing how two people can play the same FM and have such polar opposite impressions. I've read Unkillable Cat's criticism of the first mission, and I found I pretty much disagree on every single point.
I thought the terrain was extremely creatively done and very different from any other FM. I tend to be the kind of player who likes to climb and try to get into hard-to-reach places (sometimes getting into areas the creator never planned for the player to go) and I thought this first level was ideal for that. It's funny that one of Unkillable Cat's biggest criticisms is the "stay on the path" objective and how apparently easy it is to fail--I played through the whole mission and failed it only once, and then it was only because I was trying to hide the body of a guard in a conveniently dark crevice and as I was walking him down there, I failed the "don't leave the path" objective. Before that, I'd actually completely forgotten that was even an objective at all, and I explored the terrain quite fully without triggering it.
I was never frustrated during this first mission at all. I felt free to explore, and though the way forward wasn't always obvious, I figured out what to do after a little exploration. I didn't even get injured through the whole mission, which actually surprised me considering some of the jumps and falls I took. As for the "ugly" terrain, I didn't find it ugly at all, and I was even playing without fog because I didn't know about the fox fix patch at the time (I've restarted this mission since installing the fog fix, and it's even more awe-inspiring that way :-) ). In fact, picking your way through this amazing rocky terrain for twenty minutes makes the impact even greater when you first come over the rise and suddenly see the castle in the distance.
I also remember UnKillable Cat being annoyed by the lock on the front gate of the castle, which just goes to show how two people can have such opposite reactions to the same thing--my first thought upon discovering that this lock wasn't as simple as most was actually something along the lines of, "Oh neat! It's more like a puzzle--how clever. I didn't know you could do that!" That lock is very like a puzzle in an adventure game, and as a player addicted to adventure games, it was a wonderful surprise for me. In fact, so far in these missions I've found several nice surprises that have impressed me--an attention to detail and "outside of the box" thinking that I find refreshing after 10 years if FM playing.
Given my issues with the second mission crashing at that one conversation, I haven't played far enough into it to get to all the apparently difficult puzzles yet, so I can't comment on that yet, but so far, my impression of these missions is extremely favorable, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself, and with all due respect to Unkillable Cat, Sneaky Jack, and others who have found these missions so unfulfilling, I couldn't disagree more.

I am determined to finish on Largo. Has anyone got a workaround for the rope arrow not appearing in the elevator shaft? I have tried loading earlier saves, but nothing seems to work. Is this a bug that anyone else has experienced?

You have to make a lot of noise (jump up and down and swing your sword against the metal)

(don't have a sword but the blackjack worked).

Okay, round 2-I've got the slowfall potion but how do I use it to save the bride after I ruin Anger's music with the can can book?

But now it is so bad that I just went back there to check and I'm only getting 5fps. Exiting and reloading is making no difference.
Did you exit
from the game and re-start it? There is a memory leak in the 2nd mission, experienced it myself. Restarting the game should cure the problem temporarily.
clearing, it's too late for breaking the egg already,
I was too delved into the story and didn't give much attention to the colors or the egg and proceeded further. Just didn't realize I found the real easter egg - it happened while I was attempting to enter the combination to open the wall and my right mouse button is somewhat defective and double or triple clicks often, the colour lights happened just after about 3 or 4 clicks, so naturally I couldn't even imagine that I found the real egg and thought it was just an indication of incorrect code.

@ doug:
Have you found the maul and the key to the food elevator room? The maul is found in room 3 near the grandfather clock; with this maul you can free the elevator. The kay to the elevator room is in the hot water. You must clear the fire to go swimming
I don't understand this:

Nothing at all wrong with that! Also, very well written. :D You should review missions more often.
