Despite some frustrations this FM has so much interesting going on that it makes it worth the effort to keep going (hopefully Zontik will learn from this.) This is my kind of FM insofar as the variety, puzzles, story, etc. I don't like fully lit rooms though - always best to have a dark corner somewhere so the player can assess what is what.
My main problem is framerate on my old PC so I've finally set up Thief on my newer PC and just about got it working although with a mouse menu problem. But it is a testament to this FM that it is good enough to give me a kick up the ass and finally put Thief onto my Vista.
It is possible to get trapped though in this FM (may already have been reported) but no way to warn anyone without a spoiler so read if you will:
There is a situation where after using a rope there is no way to get onto it and you are stuck. So don't do what I did and quicksave after shooting the arrow! D'oh! Fortunately I had another arrow and most players will too but just make sure.

Hi there
i am looking for hints or a walkthrough for this very hard game. I am still on the mountain on mission 1 and cannot find out how to get to the castle.
Please help
Thanks
If you are still not far from the beginning then you need to
head east to start with and make one easy jump as you go along but a bit further you come a dead tree and ahead is a V-shaped gully with two big rocks laying across. If that is where you are then you can mantle up the steep rock near the tree. Try right near the corner. I found a small angle I could get up.If that is not where you are then let us know what you see. Although the FM refers to 'keeping to the path' there is no visible path in the normal sense. Just keep from falling off!

... to accomplish the loot goal one HAS to loot the secrets on Largo?

earrings on table in Bride maid's room (25)I've found 2165 on Largo without counting secrets and without taking the crown. I missed
those earings I think but those would only take me to 2190. If there is more outside of secrets it must be devilishly hidden! :erm: But apparently, if you don't take the crown the loot goal doesn't matter. You can finish the mission without meeting the loot goal. That objective just disappears from the list.

You did better than me - I went through on Allegro with stealing the crown and exited on 1970 loot and I thought I'd done well. I think you're right though the sectrets are needed for Largo.
If you don't take the crown the objective of getting 2300 loot on Largo still remained for me - I ended up with 2690

Sagittal, you found secret in Elizabeth’s apartments (in toilet)?

Sagittal, you found secret
in Elizabeth’s apartments (in toilet)? The one
behind the door? If so Yes. I think I ended on 7 secrets when leaving the crown:
2 associated with the barrel cellar (the lift and the 'nudge' door)
1 for the gas arrow
1 for the bathroom (behind the door)
1 for the attic/switch library bookcase
1 for the Throne Room Puzzle
1 for the candle key? or the Ark? or the Goblet on the tower?.... I forget what counted now !
There's still a lot of loot left to find

Fourth floor, north side of the castle, in a closet between 29 and 30.
