Me too, I had to rely on the prolonged mauling method but maybe I'll give it another go and try for the pit!
SneakyJack: I think the guy helping 'you' out was the King - by unlocking the oak door for you (or shopping you to yhe guards with his whistle). If you check his gold haul he has over 9.5 million!!

@ sneakyjack: here´s the solution how to get on the highest point:
[spoiler]Go to the attic. In the room the is a picture with a switch behind it. Use it. This opens a bookcase in the library. There you have to solve a nice riddle and you finally get the key to the tower.[/spoiler]
About the ending:
[spoiler]You can grab the king´s crown. Under this crown lies the key to the exit. And I don´t think getting killed by the guards can be count as an alternate ending. If so you can also count "death by looking in the sun" as an alternate ending. Or jumping from the balcony. Or getting smashed by the horses. Or... [/spoiler]

[spoiler]I've just locked the doctor in the stables, searched his office and destroyed evidence, but not sure what to do next. Can't find Anger to kill him. Got into the Throne Room(?) but now what? Point me in the right direction, thanks!
Also I managed to open the wall in Anger's place, but i need to place something there, a hint as to what. thanks!

Thank you as well for this info. By 'alternate endings' I meant scripted sequences where something happens and then an objective fails.
Blowing the whistle on Garrett as the king and watching as your guards kill him, for example. Someone earlier mentioned
the King turning into a wolf at his wedding, and I have yet to see something like that. By the time the
wedding happened in my game,

You can climb the vent grate back into the vent. I just jumped up onto the fireplace mantle and then to the vent grate.

I couldn't find a key but if I remember which the parlour is I think you can jump
from a rope arrow onto the vertical metal grate - it acts like a ladderEdit: Tannar got there before me!

looks a little loose...If people don't want things spoiled, they should not be looking at spoilers in a thread whose purpose is mostly for hints. Its irritating to want to get the most out of a mission that someone has worked so hard on only to be told to keep everything secret. I meant post them in spoilers - I wasn't going to send out a forum-wide PM with them in it. Lets stop being silly.
Now I know there is a happy ending, but have no idea what it is or how to get it and zero desire to put myself through that mission again. So thanks!
