question: I am in the room with doctor, hard hat wearing guard (capt. of the guard?) and a 3rd person. I doused torches and I am waiting for them to have a conversation, they are just standing around. Does something need to be done to trigger it?
have not broken the door to get the key yet, but will. wondering what have I not done to get things to continue.
nice architecture, etc. This is a really a big one.

Shadowcrawler, have you found a secret (a switch on the ceiling) in a small corridor between main tower and Aide's room? Conversation triggers from there only (in narrow color-lighted corridor). Or you can play without conversation - read book in Valet's Room.

Anyone notice huge frame rate drop in second mission?
SneakyJack on 11/4/2010 at 17:04
Most of the second page and including the first original mission release post, yes.
Save your game and close out thief - then open it again and load your save. Enjoy. :)

Thanks it worked!

Hopelessly stuck again. I've recently:
* Used the record, wand and potion in Anger's secret lair to make the super potion or whatever
* Mixed the potion with the ingredient in the doctors office
* Stolen the chapel key from the guy with the yellow helmet and visited it
* I assume now I'm looking for something to break through the big oak door after overhearing guards talking about it outside Anger's apartment. I have no idea where this item would be - and the hammer I used to unstick the dumbwaiter is now gone. I've combed the entire castle a few times and must be missing what I need. Help. I'm on the easiest difficulty. (Allegro?)

SneakyJack:
Go upstairs to the hallway just outside of the throne room (the lower hallway, not the one on the very top floor). Go up to the oak door that has the hammer and chisel on the floor next to it and use your lockpicks (no seriously...that's all there is too it. I felt dumb too). After you do this something extremely bizarre happens and you will probably end up being stuck again. If this happens I'll just say "check your inventory, use the key".

Last time I did that it went to a cutscene where I was put into someone elses body and all i had was a whistle that summoned guards that killed Garrett - I assumed it was an alternate ending and figured this couldn't be the ending I want.
Edit: Whoops - I see now, had to help myself out. Thanks Mike!
Alright well then:
I went downstairs - ended up with nothing but 2 health potions and the wolf potion when Anger turned into his wolf form. The dead bride opened the lock after I used the wolf potion to the switch and I used it to kill Anger - he went down the pit. Then I saw a cutscene that said the King never married, never left and something about never accessing the second floor and whatnot. Is this the 'good' ending? If not, what do I need to do differently? I feel like I missed a few rooms and some other important plot points?
The Mike on 11/4/2010 at 18:34
Sound like the same ending I got, though I have to ask, how exactly did you use the pit to kill Anger? I kept trying to find a way to push him into it with that mine cart (or whatever it is) but it never worked...I ended up just mauling him to death (in true werewolf style).
SneakyJack on 11/4/2010 at 18:54
I had to take a hit but:
After the lady opens the control box I flipped the switch - then ran around the mine cart and flipped that lever as well. It started to move, and I basically walked in front of it with Anger following me and stood right outside the path of the mine cart while he swatted me - he got one hit in before the mine cart grabbed him in between its spikes and shoved him into the pit - then the ending cutscene played.
Hopefully someone will spill the beans on the alternate endings so that we know what we're missing.
Endings I've gotten:
* While Garrett picked the lock on the door with the chisel and hammer in front of it I blew the whistle which brought guards out that killed him - game over.
* Shoved Anger into the pit - got a cutscene with fireworks stating that the King never married, never accessed the other floors in the castle and so on.
I know its possible to get a bonus objective for reaching the tallest part of the castle - but I had to cheat to get to it and I have no idea how you'd do it normally. Without a walkthrough I'm afraid that half the secrets in this mission are going to go unappreciated by most.
