Hi all, I just signed up here cause I really need some help with this. I installed Thief 2, applied all the fixes for it, but had problems with it crashing every time I launched the game and tried to load a previously saved mission. Though annoying, I got around that by instead starting a brand new game every time, then exiting back to the main menu and loading the saved mission at that point - don't know why it worked that way, but it did. I did finish the game and then decided I wanted to start trying the fan missions. The ones I've downloaded are for Thief 2 and most of them crash instantly after loading them with DarkLoader. I got tired of that and decided to try a reinstall of the game. So I uninstalled Thief 2, reinstalled it - and now it won't work at all! The intro video plays fine, but when it goes to load the main menu screen, it crashes, same thing if I try to skip straight to the menu during the intro video. I did the reinstall with the D:\setup -lgntforce command, applied the 1.18 patch, applied the ddfix, did the permanent fix for the multiprocessor issue and it still crashes. Every crash just gives me the typical 'Thief 2: The Metal Age has encountered a problem and needs to close, blah blah' error. I don't know what else to try and am hoping someone here can help.
My copy of Thief 2 is the Sold Out version and I did use the Premier patch for the update to 1.18

Welcome to the forums dude..
Have you check the red FAQ thats just above your post..?

Bikerdude, thanks for the welcome, though I'm a girl, so don't know if the 'dude' really applies to me, but anyway yes I have checked that FAQ post. I've tried pretty much everything I've come across that sounds like it could be related to my problem, but still no luck. Believe me, I'm not the kind of person who posts about a problem without doing some serious searching on my own for known solutions. I've literally spent hours on end searching around on different forums and trying multiple reinstalls but I'm just totally stumped on this

Ok, Im gonna ask what sound like daft questions but its the only way I can help.. Your running a dual core cpu and HD2400 gfx card - as you know from the faq Thief has issues with both them etc..
I have the same version of thief as you and here is the sequence of steps i take when re/installing it.
1. Delete the thief/darkloader folders
2. Install thief2 (in my case thats D:\games\thief\T2, coz I have thief1/3 aswell - t1, t3 etc)
3. install all the required files for playing FMs - NVscripts, TNHscripts, Convict script, Darkhook script etc.
4. Install DDfix 1.3.11
5. Install widescreen patch (you wont need this if you dont have a Ws monitor etc)
6. Install Darkloader (in my case thats D:\games\thief\DL)
Then play thief..

NiteShade: AFAIK, DDFix v1.3.11 is
not recommended for the Radeon graphics cards users, so please try 1.2.7 instead (you can download both of them from the (

You mean users of older radeon 2000 series cards.. As I am running a HD3850(Xp 9.4) and HD5870(win7 9.12) and they work fine with 1.3.11.

Okay, so I think I finally got Thief 2 up and running, it loads and lets me start a mission and loads the FMs, but I'm still getting the nag about inserting a disc into the drive, I thought the Premier patch took care of that?
And thanks for all the help so far, it's very much appreciated :)

If it's asking for the CD even though it's in the drive, then that's usually a symptom of installing the wrong Thief2 patch. Have a go at a clean install and try the other Thief2 patch.
