Yeah I know this gets asked a lot, but I've tried all the conventional fixes, but they haven't done anything.
My screen goes black after the mission briefing, and just sits there. Processors set to 1 only, tried the safe texture manager thing. Nothing doing.
I am running bootcamp on a macbook pro. intel core 2 duo. 2.38Ghz, 2gig of ram. Nvideo GeForce 8600M GT.
Anyone have any ideas? This is quite frustrating.

Didn't work. The fix was one I hadn't found yet though. So at least it was something new. Thanks for taking the time.

make sure you are NOT running the game in win9x compatibility mode.

Not sure if this thread is still relevant, but someone might find it useful when searching later on. I had just reinstalled my operating system from XP SP1 to XP SP2 and I ended up getting that black screen that appears after the menu. In which I can still hear the sounds in the background and I can even move around and kill myself and get back to the menu that way. This was something that never plagued me before.
I spent many hours trying to fix this, and finally I figured out how to, (at least on my machine, and I hope on yours too.)
Just want to add that I have a GeForce 8800GT. I also don't think service pack 2 had anything to do with it, but you never know.
I uninstalled my video drivers and ended up using version 169.02 which are from October 26, 2007. Installing the driver alone didn't do anything, but uninstalling Thief2 and then installing it again with the new driver already loaded worked. I could tell it was going to work right away too, because when I reinstalled Thief2, it loaded up with the Thief1 graphics, which is a clue that it is waiting for DDfix to fix it. Before, it had been giving me jorge and wireframe-like textures, so I knew right away it was a good sign.
Then, after patching it to version 1.7 I got the pre-patched DDFix thief2.exe and along with the ddfix.dll and ddfix.ini files (it obviously needs these), I put those in the Thief2 folder and it solved the problem. I have Thief2 again. :p
If you forget to add those ddfix files, it still gives errors.
Other video drivers I tried that didn't work were:
178.24
182.50 <---- as of writing this, this is the newest driver for these cards
I still have to try adding the various script files, but these hopefully should all work, and later, I still have to uninstall and reinstall ThiefGold and see if I can get that working.
I also just wanted to add, that when I right-click into properties-compatability on thief2.exe, nothing is checked there.
Hope this helps someone out there.
