Hello guys, been a long time fan of thief series (the username will be clear to some if not all ^^) and i have to ask for help people please. The thing is, when I enable EAX on either Metal Age or Gold, the movies lose sound. Before I had Creative ALchemy which is before 1.41, and had issues with other games but not these, now I have newest one, Creative ALchemy 1.41 and whenever I enable EAX, movies lose sound :((
Please, any help will be appreciated as i believe these movies are almost as important to the game as the gameplay itself and having only one is like having only half of the game...
oh yea first post :D

hey Child Of Karras, thank you very much for quick response. I installed your program into game folder, but all it does is create a folder MOVIES_OLD in which, it puts all the movie files. I tried following the instructions given by Somnus, but in my MOVIES_new there is nothing...I accepted all the agreements when it asked me.
Can you please help me man? I don't know what I am doing wrong :(
and just wondering...are steps supposed to sound muffled in-game with EAX?? :p

Ok my mistake it works, I had to run it in Windows XP compataible. Thank you very much Child Of Karras! :DDDD I only have one issue, videos in game look funny in colours while if I open them in windows, I can see everything perfectly. It just seems the game has trouble with them :(

No prob. Maybe it wasn't XP compatiblity but running it as an administrator (which does the XP mode in fact). Yes, the steps are muffled, because they're below your "ears" and EAX tries to simulate the absorption of the torso.

Thanks Child Of Karras, I only got one problem with the game, the movies look funny in-game, like colours mixed, image ghosting and such. Audio in movies is fine, and when I open them in game folder they look fine too. I never had that problem, and even when reinstalling game I have same issue. Do you know what can it possibly be man?:/
Btw absolutely love the soundtrack you created from thief tracks :DD

Gonna hijack this slightly - I just picked up an EAX capable soundcard too, and the first thing I noticed in Running Interference was that Basso's voice has a very pronounced echo. Obviously that's what EAX is supposed to do, but it's so pronounced as to be distracting, and I'm not sure if I need to fiddle with settings or something.
Does anybody know of videos online showing regular gameplay with EAX enabled and working well, so I could compare and contrast?
edit: uploaded a video of my own so others can judge if my EAX is all out of whack: (

I'm afraid this is all normal... Some EAX cards, including Sound Blaster Play! or an AC97 chip on Windows XP tend to overuse EAX effects. With some games, like Thief or Carnivores, the reverb is so loud it sounds unnatural. Unfortunately there's no real workaround - except someone can edit Thief's EAX settings. I have compared it with an Audigy 2 and a Terratec DMX 6 fire 24/96 where it is much more realistic in any way...

Not sure it makes it better, but you could try adding "sfx_source_reverb_mix 0.8" to the cam.cfg, and also try adjusting the 0.8 value. I think the closer to 1.0 it gets the lower the reverb intensity goes.
(If the cause of the too loud reverb problem is that the mix control is broken, then changing it will obviously not have any effect at all)
