Got a weird result with T2, so will do a fresh install, then DDfix and see how it goes.

really looking forward to it, after disappointing HD4xxx results. Please mention driver version(s) you're going to use in your tests (presumably latest finals as of writing but that changes quickly so better to post exact version numbers for future reference).
ps please employ some real-time fps measuring utils like Fraps in your tests (also in Radeon ones if possible), to give us a much better idea of what to expect (by quoting specific fps in given place/area/condition - i.e. particle effects visible on screen or not). Right now, in your Radeon test report you use phrases like: "no discrernible lag", "some lag", "massive lag", "even more lag" etc. It's ok but too subjective IMO (for some people "some lag" could be "no lag" and for others "big lag" if they experienced it themselves and were asked to describe it) and quoting specifc fps you get *in addition* to these phrases (like "massive lag - ~6-9 fps" or "some lag - ~19-22 fps" or "no discernible lag - ~30-35 fps" etc) would add to that immensely :).
pps I prefer to use terms "drop"/"slow"/"low" instead of "lag"/"laggy" when referring to fps. "Lag" doesn't imply (fps) slowness (something laggy doesn't have to be necessarily slow), just that reaction to some action is (too) time-shifted than it optimally should be. Lag is happening in situations where fps is high all the time - examples: "input lag" in some LCD displays or due to enabling triple buffering in games (or due to insufficient input device sampling rate).

will get around to updating fraps results later.
The short version, anyone with a 7/8/9 series nvidia card will be safe to upgrade to a 200 series and still be able to play thief.

So are latest DDfix version slowdown problems gone with this card? Or is the card just so powerful that it compensates on slowdowns :)?

Biker, could you please test SS2? Thanks.
Have you tried with the v177.83 WHQL driver?

The GTX280 performs identically to the 8800 I had, nothing to do with the power of the card, but having 1-1.5x the power of my old 8800 cant hurt either.

Dont have SS2 Im afraid, and cant find 177.83 whql for either vista/Xp on nVidia's site (so it must be one of those unlisted beta's) but have found 177.92 beta - whihc i will download and try this evening.

That is predictable with old games like T1 & 2, but if it performs identically in newer games, something is wrong with your GTX 280.

I assure you that 177.83 is not simply an "unlisted beta".
