Thief 1/2 & SShock 2: DDFix and Enhanced Resolution Patch - discussion - by bikerdude

Timeslip, I patched TG with ddfix1.1 and now lightgem is kinda at some distance of player's POW, so when I approach a wall (or look down) it hides behind the surface   . It's normal in patched T2, and not patched TG. Otherwise, 1.1 works fine with TG and my setup, fast and keeps gamma setting. Do you have any idea about how can I fix the lightgem problem?
Can't use newer patches because even though speed seems adequate enough in T1/G (unlike T2) on HD3870 in DX6 mode, the gamma reset problem is still there, and I alt-tab relatively often.

Why do you have your desktop and DromEd game mode using different resolutions?
Set them both to use the same, and you'll have much less trouble going into game mode.
You are right that I could set my resolutions to be the same, but my problem is that I run my desktop in 1600x1200 (because I want/need all the space I can get), which is a resolution that cannot be used in DromEd without it crashing (which is a known problem), so I have to run them in different resolutions.
Sure, it's not a showstopper, but I thought I'd ask since windowed mode has worked before with ddfix, but not anymore, and I really liked windowed mode (as you may have guessed by now :erg: ) and was hoping that it could be brought back.
I can probably get used to switching into game mode less often and wait the one or two seconds it takes when I do (and also the switching between desktop and DromEd), but well... *falls on his knees and begs Timeslip to bring back windowed mode* *please*

I'm running 1.3.9b ddfix and as i said i am using an intel 965 express chip. Also thief is NOT running in a window.
Ok,
1. You dont need to DDfix thief for it to run on that chipset.
2. DDFix needs a bit more oomph then vanilla thief,
All of the above means your better off running vanilla thief on your current gfx chipset.

I know I don't need to run it with ddfix, but thief does look better with it since its using 32bit and you get non 4:3 resolutions (you know so that the game can be run at the native resolution of the laptops screen.)

I'm using DDFix with my Intel X3100 and it works flawlessly. Finally rid of that awful resolution switching... Thanks Timeslip !!

Hmm... I just made a fresh Thief Gold install, applied the patch, but the videos do not work. Game launches right into the main menu. I have an nVidia 8800 GTX, running Vista SP1.

Did you check the box for "video fix"? (or was it already checked? or did the newest ddfix break videos? I'm still using 1.2.7) The alternative is by using the "regindeo.bat" file. And, of course, failing that, there are many other solutions....
@242: I don't mean to be rude, but that is oldhat. That was one of the problems with 1.1.1 And frankly, it was so annoying that I didn't seem to think ddfix was even worth the trouble then. Anywho, that is not a problem in the newer ones, but since you don't wanna use the new one, I dunno what to tell ya. Timeslip?

You mean the lightgem problem also was present in TG with 1.1 on older radeons as well as on nvidia cards? As I wrote, the problem doesn't exist in patched T2 (ddfix1.1).
Anyway, I "fixed" it by using newer ddfix with TG and setting 3d gamma in graphics card settings. So now I use 1.1 for T2 (because of speed problem with DX6 renderer), and 1.2.7 for TG (because of lightgem problem) :erg: ;) BTW, with ddfix, TG visuals are much better too, without it there were plenty of pitch black areas and "spottedly" coloured textures, now it looks much more pleasant for eyes.

I have the latest DDfix. The "video fix" option was already ticked, and it's set to 1 in the ini. Strange. I went to Run to register the codec and that didn't work either. The game launches right into the menu and none of the videos work. It looks great though :)
