Biker, could you add the links to my hex-edited .exes with DDFix applied to them to the first post, for people who have trouble with or don't want to use the GUI installer?
(Why do you have PMs disabled?)

I remember I ran vanilla TG @1600x1200 no problem (don't remember if there were some bugs/quirks related to running at that unofficial/unsupported res). And that was on some ancient nVidia card. 1280x1024 ran, too. Too bad 1280x960 doesn't run at all :(.
Odd, it crashes hard for me if I try to set it higher than 1024x768 in cam.cfg, always has. - all the way back to when I was on a voodoo banshee, through a Radeon VE, Radeon 9500, Ge7600GT and what I'm running today, a Ge8800GTS... Always assumed that was why Thief 1/Gold only ever listed the three 'basic' resolutions (640,800,1024) as it's options in the menu - because one of the first things I ever tried with the game was setting non-standard resolutions in cam.cfg.
Hang on, let me try the vanilla here and on my laptop...
Yup. Crashes hard trying to set higher than 1024x768.... Dunno, maybe it's a difference between my copy of gold and other people's copy or something? (lord knows there are HOW MANY different flavors of T1 floating around?)

As far as I am aware you only need to edit one of those cfg files for the resolution to take effect.
With DDFix installed on Thief Gold on my setup, only setting one returns the "cannot set resolution" error, and barfs back down to 640x480x8
You know, backreading this thread a question occurred to me - has nobody tried to port T1 to the T2 engine? It would open up the better color depths capabilities of T2, right? It's dark engine, we know how to unpack the maps and textures - should be as simple as a copy, then just dump your texture replacements in /fam
Just a thought...

hi guys,
Got a bit of a problem, similar to someone else in this thread who subsequently couldn't follow it up since they cracked their disk. Basically, I have the premier version of thief 2 which I'm trying to get running on my vista 64bit, 8800GT system.
I installed the patch for premier version of the game and then followed the readme when manually configuring the ddfix. Now I simply can't start the game and i get the message "DirectX version 7 or higher not installed".
Anybody got any idea how I can bypass this? It must be an issue specifically for the premier version or something...

Ah mine wasn't working (i am playing with the thief gold exe nameless voice posted) but then I changed my cam.cfg to be the same res 1280 1024 as the ddfix and it decided to work - so if you are having problems then that could be why - I got a black screen before.
Is it possible to play thief gold in 24 or 32 bit? I tried changing the depth from 16 in the cam file but it just caused the game to crash. Or does ddfix do this automatically?

DDFix automatically runs the game in 32bit. Don't mess with cam.cfg ;)

Yeah, its curious that thief does not show 32, but I suppose the game has no way of telling.... The thing is, I'm always wondering if it really is running in 32-bit, because i could not tell anything different with ddfix except for the obvious fixes, but I dunno if that is result of 32-bit or not.
@ Dan Knott:
I just tried running thief gold at 1280 x 800, and it crashes. I set it with ddfix enabled and cam.cfg changed to 1280 x 800. I also tried just changing ddfix. Neither works, it crashes. I think what you said here:

That is certainly an interesting question to bring up. And I think that is probably the case. I got my copies of thief from Eidos, so they are as original as they can get... But I know there are all these other "versions" of thief, such as the SoldOut software version. It could be that these somehow address the resolution problem, except for I don't know how. Can anyone confirm this theory? Or maybe it has nothing to do with version, and has to do with hardware?
@ Prvt_Peanut:
First of all, Welcome newcomer. :)
Anyway, that is strange. I assume you tried running the game without DDFIX beforehand? I know you just said you ran ddfix with the game and it gave you that weird message. Hopefully someone comes along that can help you out.

From what I know Thief 2 works only with following resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024. (Maybe 1600x1200 but I am not sure).
If anyone ever makes it possible to run other resolutions (such as 4:3 1280x960, or widescreen resolutions) I will bow before him ;)
