Q: does vanilla T1/TG have stars on modern nVidia cards/drivers (i.e. in Bafford)? Can't check it myself as I'm on ATI now.
Yes, I see stars in Bafford's, both with an without DDFix, on my 8800ultra w/169.44

that's a bit unfortunate and it would be great if Timeslip managed to reproduce (can be hard as he doesn't own T1/TG copy AFAIR) or otherwise work out the cause of this crash bug on exit in T1/TG and fix it.
Timeslip
Drop me a PM if you want my a copy of Thief1 as I dont have much use for it these days...

Yes, I see a few stars in Bafford's, both with an without DDFix, on my 8800GT.

Tip: Imageshack may scale down the images it displays..
That's why you should always use the 'Direct Link' URL and write the forum code yourself, so you will link directly to the full-sized image without ImageShack's unwanted display page.
(To get the thumbnail for linking the image, just put put .th into the path before the extension, e.g. image
.th.jpg)

Yet they benefit (in varying degrees, depending on scene) from 32-bit render target provided by ddfix
I never denied that, I was just explaining that none of the games use 16 or 32-bit world textures.

BTW NV, do you prefer vanilla T2 rendering (with proper dithering like on ATI card up to X1xxx) or 32-bit dithering-less rendering provided by ddfix (just curious)?
DDFix.
I haven't played with the new DDFix yet, but when I compared shots on my laptop's Radeon Mobility X300 (perfect 16-bit rendering) with the 32-bit rendering from older versions of DDFix, I much preferred the DDFix version - though I didn't want to use it much then due to the lack of fog and interference with DromEd that plagued the earlier versions.
When I released the EP, I took a screenshot showing the sky on
Shipping... and Receiving for the start of the thread. If you look closely, you can see that screenshot was made using DDFix, because the sky looked so much better than on my X300's 'perfect' rendering.

I apologize for my stupidity/hasteness, biker and eva. I didn't want to look through pages of posts to see if biker's 8800 was from before november 2007. But honestly, I was not paying attention to the 2007... I don't know if nvidia could have made a card between now and january and biker already having it. Plus, I must have been thinking you meant the 8800 series card, but you meant November 2007 cards and later. it really is unfortunate that new stuff does not allow older stuff to work anymore... but you know, part of the reason why nvidia could probably give a damn is because its always that thinking of "out with the old in with the new." that was certainly the case with Vista and halo 2 for PC. Or ignorance of old games like thief that won't work anymore. I don't know. They decided, forget Xp, we'll make halo 2 vista only! yeah! aren't we assholes!:ebil: Not that I really care for myself, its the principle that counts - leaving out XP users? that's just messed up.
btw, great comparison shots Nameless Voice!

Yeah, no prob, Sneaksie.
Also my apologies to Biker, for the rude posts. He was right about vanilla T1:TDP/TG working fine on the newer cards with v169.44.

EDIT: BWHAHAHA, vanilla T1:TDP/TG Trial both work fine with 169.44. Vanilla SS2/T2 still refuse to run, period. So yes, Biker is correct in regards to T1.

Are you out there? I know I probably shouldn't be asking this sort of thing, but I was wondering if maybe possibly you could just patch the older ddfix 1.1.1 if its possible - ddfix 1.1.1 works fine for me, but 1.2.4/1.2.5 cause that weird text thing. I'm wondering if it has to do with that 16-bit extra thing or whatever you were saying. You know, the 16-bit layer for the text or whatever. I'm also not the only one that has the problem, as vasmarok has pointed out. Thanks for all the work.
Oh, I forgot to mention, i've also installed the newest redist of directx for march; ddfix is still making that double text effect.:( I just don't understand what's going on.

For nvidia system shock 2 players who can't fix the transparent menu by simply changing the colour key, can you please try (
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/temp/ddfixBeta.7z) this version. Set UseSysMemOverlay to 2 and OverlayColourKey to 0xf81f and see what happens.

Newest DirectX redist wont do much. It's been a long long time since microsoft last worked on DirectX 6. :p
I seem to remember vasmarok saying that the problem had been fixed by updating drivers. Can't seem to find the post now though. Downloading that beta for system shock two and setting UseSysMemOverlay to 2 without changing the colour key setting should fix it anyway.

I get: "The requested URL /tmp/ddfixBeta.7z was not found on this server."
BTW. Could someone possibly sum up what to do to use DDFix in SS2, or perhaps created a different thread or added info about DDFix to "running SS2 on XP thread".

If you're using the manual version just follow the same instructions as for Thief 2. If you're using the gui, you need to rename the exe to Thief2.exe before opening the GUI, and then use it like normal.
What's the name of the system shock 2 exe? I'll get the GUI to check for it next version, to save having to rename it.
