As T1/G was never really broken by DX10 cards (8600/8800/9600-2600/2900/3800)
Sorry, but you're wrong. The Dark engine games won't run under XP, period, on Nvidia cards released from November 2007 onwards, without DDfix. Although 8800GT owners running XP32 can use the leaked beta driver, Forceware v167.76 - but it's an unoptimised POS with dreadful performance.

The thing is, those shots are out of context. Do a full screen shot and youd see that those area are in shadow, and in T1/G shadows are mostly black - bar a few FM's.
but they
are full screen shots (res of 1024x768 set in TG and ddfix .ini). I didn't zoomed them in etc.

Anyway, each to their own.
surely agree here :)

another example (brighter env. this time and NOT any close-ups - just typical corridor run - take a look at nearby wall/door textures):

EvaUnit02, have you tried latest WHQL candidates 174.53 (originally for 9xxx) with modded .inf on your 88GT?

Nah, I'm using v169.44 beta. I don't normally touch drivers unless they're on Nvidia's site.

You don't technically need DDFix to make Thief 1 look like Thief 1, but you do need DDFix to make Thief 1 look like Thief 2.
Everyone hated the un-dithered mess that was Thief 2 on DX10 hardware without DDFix, yet Thief 1 always looked like that, because it didn't support dithering in the first place. With DDFix, Thief 1 looks like Thief 2 - the engine is no longer being let down by the lack of dithering or colour tone available in dark areas.
It also lets me run Thief 1 in 1280x1024, which it didn't natively support. :)

I venture to say that you also need ddfix (for both T1 and T2 and probably SS2) if you have 8800GT or newer card and/or you want to use drivers newer than 163.x

What about fog on a GeFroce 8600 GTS? Somebody with this card reported, that the fog will not work, even with ddfix applied thief2.exe. Is this true and if yes, what's the reason?
Eshaktaar on 19/3/2008 at 19:16
I have an 8800 GTX, and fog still does not show up. I can toggle it on/off in the options but to no avail.
Hiatus on 19/3/2008 at 20:11
@Eshaktaar: driver version(s) tested, OS used? And, does fog work for you in vanilla T2?

On the contrary, vanilla Thief 1 does support 1280x1024 (probably 1600x1200 as well, but I never got the opportunity to test it, due to not having a screen that supports that resolution.), you just have to edit your cam.cfg.
