Changing the driver to 163.75 also fixed the problem with the 6600 card.

Another interesting vanilla T2 vs ddfixed T2 screenshot comparison (no close-up textures any more). Comments/opinions?
What is your point? Why not just state it?
My point is that dithering is never as good as using the natural color in a broader palette because dithering creates spots. You can clearly see it in the distance on your 16 bit shots and you can see it everywhere if you magnify them X2. And, if you disregard the dithering detail, the images look the same to me.
Dithering is an attempt to fake it with a smaller palette. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but I think it is never better.

IMHO, there is no need to use ddfix with T1/TG.. it works fine in vanilla form on the latest driver on the 8800GTX/Ultra.
You mean latest WHQL, that is 169.21? I have them installed and my thief 2 withoud ddfix crashes upon loading a mission.
Anyways, I'd like to make a suggestion to timeslip to remove 1280x960 resolution from the dropdown menu because from what I experienced Thief fails to run in this resolution.

The older ddfix has no problems. I think it has to do with the fact that from 1.1.1. to 1.2.0 and above...
 ......I keep saying this, but no one is listening, T1 and Tg dont need to be DDfix'd in order to run/look properly on 8600/8800 or 2900/3800 cards... There is no significant visual improvment, because T1/TG dosent have as much details in the shadows as T2 etc.
Ive tested vanilla(w/dualcore fix)T1/TG on my 8800 card on various drivers.

.... and what's the maximum resolution t1/g will let you run? 1024x768
If you manually set your cam.cfg to 1600x1200 and your ddfix.ini to 1600x1200, guess what T1/TG runs at. (if you do not set both files to the same value I've found T1/TG crashes on my hardware on render start)
Besides, it gives you 32 bit rendering - which means better gradients, better AA, smoother shading, no dithering, no annoying mode switches between menus, movies and gameplay, can integrate the movie fix if you still need it without a .bat file, prevents you from having to mess with imagecfg -a to force the game to run on a single core (my Q6600 hates even T1/TG without the multicore fix) ... Oh yeah, none of that is 'worth it'.

sorry Bikerdude, but I also have to disagree. Just look at the screen comparisons I posted above and notice the vast visual difference it made (both close-up texture which are now *much* better blended and pleasant to look at AND much more detail/perceived resolution in shadow/dark areas - both are due to enhanced output color palette to 32-bit from which even textures used in T1/TG benefit).

merely not to suggest anything before others state their opinions after seeing the shots.

Ok yes in the shadows there is a difference, but T1/G OM's and the vast majority FM's have next to no details in the shadows, so the "green" effect exhibited by 8800 cards isnt as noticable as it is in T2.
As T1/G was never really broken by DX10 cards (8600/8800/9600-2600/2900/3800) I have never seen the need to DDfix it. Also there hasnt been a T1/G FM for a very long time..
But never let it be said that I influenced people from making their own choices..

As far as I am aware you only need to edit one of those cfg files for the resolution to take effect.

The thing is, those shots are out of context. Do a full screen shot and youd see that those area are in shadow, and in T1/G shadows are mostly black - bar a few FM's.
Anyway, each to their own.
