It's great to see you working on the fix some more! Unfortunately, in the latest version of ddfix I get a pitch black menu. I managed to start the mission blindfolded, and the game itself shows up (with improved texture filtering). Any onscreen text (like "compass" or "water arrow") is missing, though, and when I go to the map or the objectives, or click on a book I get a black screen again.
I have a GeForce 8800 GTX running on Vista.
It works on XP with forceware 169.21, but I also get a black screen on vista with 162.22. I've no idea if it's because of the older drivers or vista itself.
I'll see if I can fix it, but if not you'll have to stick with 1.1.
Edit: OK, looks fixed. Can you redownload and see what happens? There's still a problem with bits of vista's desktop showing through the menu, but that's aero's fault and not something I can fix. (It probably only effects people using duel monitors anyway.)

Simple question: this patch also are improvements with radeon cards?
Hiatus on 13/3/2008 at 13:58
@Timeslip:
I've got radeon x1950pro with cats 8.3 and got identical issue as clearing (same looking pic) with your beta fix 1.2.1. Right after loading a level text saying "requested screen mode cannot be set" appears on-screen briefly and the game runs for a few secs in low-res *software* mode most likely (not 3D accelerated) and then crashes to desktop (XP SP2).
Looks like your 1.2.1 beta fix is fine with nVidia chipsets but ATI is broken (fix 1.1.1 works fine for me) - probably something to do with setting screen resolution for 3D mode in-game being incompatible with Radeons (?). (I've tried res 1024x768 - same one as my desktop and it behaved as described above).
Maybe ATI cards use a different method of setting 3D resolution in DirectX 6 than nVidia ones (just my guess)?

I've tested it with a Radeon X1600 Pro, Catalyst 8.1 and WinVista (64-bit) and get the same results as Hiatus, just for info. ;)

ok, so 3 people already with various ATI chipsets and various Cat versions and same behaviour with 1.2.1...

Thanks a lot, Timeslip! Thief 1:TDP, T2, T2X and SS2 now run perfectly on my 8800GT with v169.44 beta.
No disappearing light gem in T1, no stuttering cutscenes, no crashing when you search a corpse in SS2, fog in T2.
