In addition to my instructions on installing and running Thief 2 on Vista, here's the instructions for Thief 1 (this is for the original Thief, NOT Thief Gold, which I don't own. You may not get the same results if you're using Thief Gold). This is the exact order and procedure I used, nothing more or less:
System:
2006 iMac running Boot Camp
2.4GHz Intel Core2Duo
3 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT
-------------------
All system and driver updates are current to the day and UAC is turned off
Files needed:
- DDFix 1.5.11
- DDFix Thief.exe file
1) Insert Thief CD and install
2) Install Thief to: C:\Games\Thief2
3) Open Thief (intro movie should play fine and you should get to the menu with no problems), then exit
4) Place DDFix "thief.exe" and contents from "ddfix_1.5.11.zip" into Thief directory
5) Open CAM.CFG and edit the following line:
game_screen_size XXX XXX
(X=whatever resolution you wish to use. 1680x1050 works fine for me)
6) Run Thief (gameplay fine, movies fine)
-------------------
It's strange because before I'd have to bend over backwards to fix the hyperthreading issue, but now it seems you don't have to do anything regarding that problem. The game runs perfectly fine. I guess Microsoft addressed that issue in an update at some point.
Enjoy!
