Thief 1 Mission: "Bloodstone Prison"... a Kung Fu Gecko production (Nov 24, 1999) - by kfgecko

Just by coincidence, I re-played this mission yesterday.
Take short, sharp right as soon as you get into that river room. Press your body close up against the tiny niche made by the wall, and you'll pretty much be in shadow. Take out a water arrow and douse that torch on the other side where the two haunts are.
Now keep going right until you get to where the river meets the gate. Crouch down and slowly lower yourself down into the water (don't go perpendicular, go at a sharp angle- like you're slipping off the edge of a cliff). The haunts will get a bit excited, but if you move slowly through the water and *slowly* surface, you can get to the other side of the river completely unnoticed.
When the haunts settle down, pull yourself up out of the water directly opposite the bank you just left. You should be in deep shadows. Press your body right up agains that wooden boat leaning there.
Get your sword out.
Save your game.
Get to the very edge of the shadow. You should be about a step or two away from the haunt with the sword in his hand.
Now hold the button down until you get the sword over your head, step to the *swordsman* (important) and cut him down when the haunt with the arrows turns to the side. It only takes one good overhead swing to take out the swordsman.
As soon as you connect with him, turn around and run back the way you came and jump in the water. The haunt will try to fire arrows at you, but he won't get off more than one shot, and you'll be 'round the corner by then, anyway.
Once you're in the water, disarm the sword and press your body against the bank. You'll be in shadows and you'll be able to surface. Wait until he calms down (stops pacing back and forth) and get back up there.
Save your game.
Now re-arm the sword. It's time to take out this crazy bugger. Now that he's been "alerted" he's going to be tougher to kill. You need to be cool like Fonzie, ok? ;-) Get the sword up and into an overhand swing. Then, as soon as he looks away, step to him and let him have it. He's going to double over. This will give you time to get the sword going for another overhead swing. Then again, he might get another shot off. Just take it. When you hit him a second time with a full overhead swing, he should be all done. If not, give him a couple of quick chops. He won't recover.
It's really not hard, you just need to keep your cool. And it'll save you lots of water arrows. You're going to need them for what comes next. :-) Be sure to jump back in the water on the other side after they're dead and get the water arrows (2) that are down there.

Apparently, I need to refresh my page more often. Plus, Nightwalker said it so much more succinctly. Sorry to waste bandwidth.

Yikes! What about the rotten guy in the room above? Every time I try to kill him he explodes ending up taking me with him. I don't have any arrows left, should I just ignore him or do I need to take him out in order to complete the quest?
Nightwalker on 5/2/2002 at 18:06
You have to have a special weapon to kill the Jiggiwiddi. There's a hammer on the floor way down at the bottom of the jail cells, in the room with all the frogbeasts hopping around. Throw it at him, but make sure you can duck behind a doorway or something to shielf yourself from damage. :)

Thats pretty neat. I wonder though, is this written in any book or notes in the game? Or do you have to figure it out on your own?
Another question, I managed to sneak by him and pick the door on the other side of the room, I found a key, but this key wouldn't unlock the door in there, do I need another key or is it required that I kick his butt before moving on?
Sorry about all the questions :o)

The clue about using the Hammer is in the book, lying beside it on the floor down by the frogbeasts, I think.
Don't apologize for asking lots of questions! That's why this forum exists, for people to ask their questions and make comments about FMs. Ask all you like. :)
If you read the note beside the door in the room past the Jiggiwiddi, you'll see it says you need the Vault key to open it. There's a trick to getting that. There's a Hammer ghost standing at the front of the chapel. Somewhere around there is a note saying that he has access to the safe in the office and it gives a clue about how to get him to go there. If you don't want to bother looking for that now, highlight here: Put out the candle in front of him, then just follow him. He goes to the safe and opens it, then closes it. Make sure you're right up beside the safe when he opens it, because it doesn't stay open for long. You'll find the vault key in there and some loot.

So he won't kill me? Phew! I was worrying he'd slaughter me!

naarmo: Don't worry, I played this mission so many times before I realized the ghost wouldn't hurt me. I've got to go back and play this one again. It was a really good one.
Theef: scroll your page up a little while you're typing in your response, and any that are added after you went into Replying, will show up down there on top!
At least that's the way it used to work and I think it still does on this New Board, but I haven't actually seen it happen, so I don't know for sure.

Nightwalker. Have you made any Fan missions? You seem like a guy (assuming you're a guy) that knows what he is talking about and that have played and finished most of the FM's. If you have, can you name a few? If you haven't, are you planning on doing so?
