Thief 1 Gold, STILL running too fast. - by Vic 2.0

no wonder you don't have any water textures. if you have followed the instructions properly, you should have a "mods" folder in your thief gold folder, inside of it a "FAM" folder with the "waterhw" folder.
btw, make sure the game is not installed in program files.

I don't know what instructions you mean. But yeah, the game is in Program Files. What would you suggest for me to do?

at this point, the best thing would be to start all over again. uninstall the game, reboot, and install it again, this time using some simple and short filepath (C:\games\thief would be a nice example),
when you are done, apply the all-in-one fix: (

make sure you follow the 3-step instructions from the readme. reboot, an you should be up and running.

Okay, after doing all this, here's the status:
When I loaded the game, it took me to the main menu, which seemed to be in hyperdrive and frozen (I couldn't move the cursor). I Ctrl+Alt+Del'ed out and made sure the program was running in only CPU 0. I brought the game back up and it let me start a new game, but everything was BLUE! No real textures to anything, just different shades of blue (the torches were orange, though? lol) Really sharp edges, so I guess SOME part of the graphics update worked. Didn't seem like the game was running too fast, and I didn't play long enough to see if was still freezing, but needless to say, I can't play it like this!

-extract the contents of the archive to your TG folder, overwrite old files (if you want the old look without all the hires mods, do not copy over "mods" and "res" folders).
-run movecrf.bat (moves all original thief crfs to the RES folder.
all orginal crfs MUST be in the RES folder for things to work properly). GOG edition should already have the crf at the proper place (but double check to be sure).
-edit cam.cfg and modify game_screen_size line to reflect the resolution you want (the default is set to 1024 768). do NOT do this if you are running hdradeon card under winxp-see readme_hdxp.txt in the hdradeon_winxp folder.
your crfs are not in the res folder. setting the cpu affinity should not be necessary anymore as well. did you at least try to follow those instructions?

I meant to do that, but I guess I forgot about it. Either way, I couldn't find movecrf.bat. Is this something else I was supposed to download? Could I just move them manually?
Thanks for your help thus far (and your patience!)

You could move them manually - but the movecrf.bat file is in the tgfix1.05 archive that Voodoo linked you to. If you're missing that file then you've probably not extracted the contents of the archive into your Thief Gold installation correctly and you may be missing other files or they're in the wrong location.
One possible reason is that the archive has a subdirectory "tgfix1.05" - you need to copy the contents of that into your Thief installation and not the subdirectory itself.

Yes! What happened was I just read what was inside the quote (in the thread Voodoo's link led me to). The rest began with "in case some of the authors of the packs/fixes do not like their works being distributed...", so I didn't read any further. I didn't figure it had anything to do with the actual fix being suggested. But now I'm on track. Even played it a while to make sure it didn't freeze. There's a little choppiness, but nothing too bad.
Looks great too! Thanks, everyone!

Glad you got it working in the end. Kudos must go to voodoo for putting it together - enjoy the game.

After having not played Thief Gold for several years, I was hoping to give it a go again on my newer computer but was concerned that it would not work properly with the newer hardware. I came across Voodoo47's all in one patch and have been trying unsuccessfully for some time now to get things working correctly. I am actually having the exact problems Vic 2.0 was having in this thread and have tried all the same fixes that were suggested (making sure all of Voodoo47's patch was extracted into my Thief Gold file, running the movie.bat file, confirming the game is installed in my Games file and not my Program Files). When I run the game, however, I get a black screen with voices in the background unless I turn the "Hardware" off in the game options. When I turn off "Hardware", though, I get the game in very low resolution and the guards are shimmering with multi-colors. I therefore appreciate any suggestions you may have.
Thanks.
