The screenshots look amazing but then again all modern games look alike.
I fixed this for you, Thor.

Lol, Dishonored 2 was my first thought.
I like what they show, and love the new title/logo font. I trust EM will give us another great game, like Deus Ex 3...
...and the only reason why I am so positive is because I no longer view this game as a Thief game (never really did), because it f#cking isn't going to be one, it's a reboot, a clean slate, an alternate universe. Thief remains a trilogy.

This is the one best way to look at it. No matter how good or bad it may ultimately be, it will not...WILL NOT...be the Thief we all remember. It'll be similar. Have some of the same cues, themes, and stylings. But it won't play exactly the same, won't feel exactly the same.
It won't be our old Thief. Not 100% exactly anyway. If you're expecting Thief 2.5, you're setting yourself up for nothing but disappointment.

Wah I love how many Commchat/Gengaming guys are suddenly all over this. For some reason. I don't know guys I'm easily excited.
Anyway, I read the press release and I'm actually getting enthusiastic. I can't really imagine Thief without Constantine's part happening, or without hammerites, but as a game itself it looks pretty interesting, and not some weird sequel to Dishonored. Sure I can see some comparisons but it seems to have its own style good enough. Hoping for a trailer soon!
Also, special hug for Queue showing up. Y'know, one of my really special ones.

Can you imagine Stephen Russell doing this atrocious purple prose:
Time has moved on. Power has shifted. New greed replaces the old.
But to remain free in the city of chains - that is still the greatest prize.
First I stole to survive... then I survived to steal.
I am one man; I hear your secrets, see your hidden truths.
I am the shadows, the dark and deadly, the velvet night. You will not see me coming.
I am Garrett....What's yours is mine.in his signature Garrett style?
Rhetorical question.
Wow, lol, good point! I didn't notice how much this doesn't
sound like what Garrett would say until I used the Garrett voice in my head. (Heh, that sounds weird.)

The screenies actually look pretty tasty to me!
For everyone calling it a Dishonored clone, keep in mind, this project began *long* before Dishonored, so.... yea...
Are there similarities? No doubt, but that's like saying The Matrix and Minority Report are clones because both of them are distopian tales that involve some sci fi elements and a similar grey/blue cinematographic hue.

At least it looks like Garrett has relearned how to climb ropes.

Quest compass; hilightable lights to show which ones can be turned off (?); highlightable shelves to show which ones hold objects of interest; loot glint; no rope arrow, but instead a 'claw' which attaches only to certain places; no ghosts or supernatural or burricks or other monsters: all confirmed.
"Focus lights up the screen and highlights pipes you can climb or candles you can put out to darken the room. As you upgrade your Focus you will get a bigger radius of things to see. We have a fingerprints system that will give you hints on which drawers are worthwhile to look in. Every drawer in the room is accessible, but you use your Thief skills like CSI to figure out where the valuables are." (GameInformer Magazine, quote and magazine scans found (

I saw that and rolled my eyes. I guess people these days need help playing a game like this. I won't use the focus, and I hope the quest compass can be turned off. It's bad enough we'll have a lockpick minigame. I hate those. Garrett is a master thief, there are some things he (we) should be able to do instinctively, like lockpicking from T:dp/G/2.

It's jarring how much pessimism discussion of modern pop-hits like god of war, assassins creed, and call of duty has stirred in me. Why were the developers talking about these games at all? Is it like Far Cry 3's marketing, "It's like Skyrim with guns"? where the only enthusiasm can be generated by name dropping popular series? I don't like what they're doing, but it all sounds really rough. I don't think they are handling PR for a Thief game right. They talk of all the new ideas and mechanics replacing old staples of the series, and I can't help but feel certain elements like focus, or a visual guide haven't much of a place in a Thief game. I joked about there being a taffer-vision around the time of hitman's sixth sense vision reveal, but this is a bit much.
I also kinda wish the dissenting attitude wasn't being dissented upon, but I guess negativity begets negativity. I can't see much worth defending in what they've revealed. At least they're not forcing us to play as a thief in a game called thief, right? Heheh...
