This is a stretch. Many games have achievements that don't affect anything else. Heck, even Thief 1 and 2 have them. 100% loot. GAME WAS RUINED
The page I linked to earlier makes a very good case that it might have been worse for it, actually. It was brought out in the hour long talk that research shows even thinking about a reward appears to do harm.

Hey Subby, we aren't talking about TMA's "Secret Found!", or "BONUS" objectives based on frobbing single objects, or carrying Truart's body to his grave, at all. Correct, nothing was ruined! Although I would like to see the stats screen given less importance by the devs, and all the damned on-screen texts TDS introduced about fixed loot goal percentages, and gently push back the High Score mentality, while offering it for players who are curious after the fact. Don't put on screen what Garrett couldn't possibly know himself at that moment, unless it is a representation of sensory input that can't be translated directly to the player. No pop-up art, no achievements that have nothing to do with the characters or plot, no high-fiving over doing something a number of times in a row, no badges, no leaderboards... Add it on separately, outsourcing it to another team, and leave the teams for the main game entirely dedicated to the main game. Don't dip into future profits or pass the cost to the customers who don't care for any of that. Stop condescending to the players in a Thief game, and don't bring in the gluttons who think more is better every time, as if it has no price.

According to the research I mentioned above, unexpected informational feedback actually increases free-choice intrinsic motivation, so these would be some of the positive examples of how achievements can be good for the game. Knowing in advance how many secrets there are, however, might work against it.

I think it's a typo. I think it's meant to be "FANTASTIC". Well, except that doesn't make sense, either. Damn auto-correct!

I guess I will just quit, before I get fired. I just want you to know that aside from awful stereotypes being hurled around this place recently, and my being lumped in, I *did* have some really positive and informational things to bring to the overall mix. Stamp me out though because my passion for Thief goes way beyond the norm.
