Another thing is that there is a bug which leads the character to "freeze" in some weird looking movement, when you do a jump near a wall or obstacle you won't get up. Only falling down or loading a save game solves that.
ProTip: select the bow, draw, cancel (Esc, tilde or another weapon key) ;) That's why FM makers have to add a few broadhead arrows in the PlayerStart inventory in case someone gets the "floating Garrett" bug.

I just figured that since they went ahead and released that abomination on PC, I might as well play using the mouse/keyboard setup I already had. It never occured to me to get a controller instead. But as dethtoll kinda pointed out, it wouldnt have mattered much since apprently 3rd person sucked as well. Nevertheless, in my attempt to play with mouse/keyboard, or should I say... keyboard. Yes, thats right, I played Thief III with keyboard only (with obvious exceptions noobs). So, as I am walking straight up to a "cliff", I stop right at the very edge and look down. Then, I look to the left. Now that I am looking left, I decide to start walking... guess what! I fall right off the damn cliff, because my body has to swing around first, like jtr was dutifully reporting. I can see why it wouldnt matter to a 3rd person gamer though, because you would never have the want or need to go right to the very edge of a cliff, and if you did would prolly be smart enough to back up first before moving again. That just isnt classic Thief game design, sorry. Thief is a 1st person game, and if anyone dicks around with the formula, they will enjoy the same results and worse that Deadly enjoyed.
:)
Abomination? I tell you, you don't know what you're missing. :) But it doesn't work exactly, 100% accurate like Thief 1 & 2, that's for sure. Maybe that's the problem? Just thinking that it seems a little nit-picky to rant about something, which you get used to in like 15 minutes? But each to its like, not here to evangelise you people of course. :) Btw, you should get a mouse. It revolutionized the computer operation 20 years ago, i heard. :cheeky:

I don't get why you wouldn't be able to cope with the movement of TDS. Ever played Chronicles of Riddick? It has a similar movement, with the movements slightly "lagging" behind the controls, due to the body movement. As i said, i don't fully get your point though. Maybe you mean something else. And no, i'm not used to console controllers. PC keyboard/mouse player since the mid 90ies.
Having to be aware of where your feet are in 1st person as a consequence of 3rd person made movement imprecise. That's what Goldmoon is saying.
This did not occur in Thief 1 and 2 and it should not occur in NuThief.

Thanks! Knew that there had to be a workaround for this.

Maybe, but honestly, nothing you couldn't cope with after 15 mins. Interesting subject though, would this be a reason for you not to play the game at all? And also, do you play a lot of other games? There are quite a few in which the movement is also a bit unprecise, Chronicles of Riddick would be a game that comes to my mind. Coincidentally, you also see your body when you look down in that one, it kind of simulates the "lagging behind" of the body movement i believe.

Its not a reason to not play the game, but its a departure from the original 2 which is most definitely inferior.
The movement in Thief 1 and 2 was some of the most perfect 1st person movement ever and was perfectly suited to stealth gameplay. LGS hit on the most perfect speed and sensitivity and the only other game that come close, imho, is Dishonored. Dishonored has superior mantling imho, but only because it's absolutely perfect where Thief 1 and 2s was close to perfect.
Chronicles of Riddick is not quite the same type of stealth game as Thief and so that movement isn't that important.
Let me give you two examples of how the movement in T1 and 2 is superior to T3.
Walking on a narrow beam or ledge - you may fall in T3 simply by turning, as Goldmoon says. This is ridiculous because in real life you know where your feet are and if you turn in this way (and were a master thief) you'd never step off the beam/ledge.
Leaning around a corner near an edge - in T3 you sidestep and so may fall. Again, this is ridiculous. Try it, you won't and don't need to sidestep.
There are plenty of games with a bit of movement lag but they aren't Thief, they don't use the same type of stealth and of them it doesn't matter. In Thief, it does.

Well, i can assure you that you don't fall off a ledge when you turn around, unless maybe one foot is already aside of the ledge. The leaning will make you fall though if you're the edge, that's true. But again, if you know that, you can easily avoid it by stepping a bit off the edge.
And if you think that the movement was unprecise, watching some YT walkthroughs will surely change your mind. :)

If you are used to leaning and movement that works properly, it's a real pain to have to relearn how to play your favorite game. Frankly, it breaks immersion to stop and readjust your feet because you want to lean or turn. I was disappointed. I don't know why, but I expect the later games in a series to be fundamentally better. The movement in T3 was not. In T1&2, I never had to think about movement. It was very intuitive. T3 was not.

Well, it is. :P The A.I. adds loads of stuff. Graphics are better (the way shadows are implemented, and change dynamically is great), sound is better, the atmosphere is awesome, implementation of the city is tighter. Personally, i think the movement is totally managable. I've heard people complain about the absence of rope arrows, you can climb walls instead, so...
A downside for me is the graphics engine, which is not well optimised. It lags in some places with many lights, even on a 2.7 GHz CPU (Dual Core, but uses one core only anyway. There's a couple of bugs too, like the ones mentioned, and you get stuck between barrels and walls sometimes. Always good to save anyways. :)

It most certainly isn't better than T1 and T2. Its still a good game but it is inferior to its prequels and a large part of that is the movement. Yes you can climb but climbing doesn't lend itself to the same type of exploration you had in the originals.
I'm going to have to fire up T2X I think.
