Petike, Dishonoured was inspired by Thief. There's an easter egg to Thief in the last level, but I haven't gotten there yet, so I don't know what it is, and I don't want to know yet.
The only thing I'll tell you is it's not the last level, but shortly before. I didn't catch it the first time, but fortunately I had to reload after dying from a stupid mistake, and got to go through that section again. You'll get a kick out of it when you see it.

Omg! What was the Thief easter egg in Dishonoured!? I've completed it twice and didn't notice anything! I'm so ashamed...

In the flooded district, in Daud's base, there's an assassin training another one. His instructions are almost identical to the Keeper training ftom Thief.

Well. Wow. I didn't realize there was an earlier Wolfenstein than 3D. It was released in 1981 back when I didn't have a console.
There were no console versions of (
http://www.mobygames.com/game/castle-wolfenstein) Castle Wolfenstein. This action game, way back in 1981, had line-of-sight based stealth, patrolling guards, bodies that could be searched and dragged, lockpicking, disguises, and even mugging. If iD's version had retained all this interactivity, it would have arguably been the first first-person sneaker, six years before Thief.

I played the original on my Apple IIe as I recall. Weren't there a few sounds used of the AI yelling at you in German? I seem to remember "ACHTUNG!"
Edit:
Yes, once I followed your link -

The game's sound effects include some of the earliest examples of digital voice samples. The guards would sometimes shout out short phrases in German in an attempt to stop the protagonist.

I just remember Castle Smurfenstein.
Man, those Smurfs were a bunch of vicious motherf'ers.

Afair they shouted "Halt!" in a German accent.
Good reminder ZB.

Considering my uncle used to be a dirty videogame pirate, the copy I got to play back when I was 6 had no manual. For me, Castle Wolfenstein was an exercise in trial and error.
Needless to say, I didn't get very far. But the one thing I remember fondly about it, the one thing that absolutely blew my tiny little preteen mind, was how you could hold a gun at the NPCs, and they'd raise their hands in response. You put the gun up, they'd put their arms down. Pull it out again, and their hands would go right back up in the air. I got such a huge kick out of that.

Chill at least until you have something to be negative about.
You mean like third person? Fancy compound bow that probably shoots arrows at light speed? This time out it'll probably be a six foot long steel spiked mace labeled "blackjack"?
We're going in with REALLY low expectations after the steaming pile of unplayable manure known as Deadly Shadows. Fancy graphics in this case just means we're expecting it to be a can of shellac on that pile; no matter how shiny it is the result is still just bug excrement on a turd.
Though going in with lower than lower than low expectations, expectations so low an ant could trample it underfoot, means we might all be pleasantly surprised.
Even if I'm fully expecting mines to be the side of monster truck tires with a rotating search-light on top -- that would be the natural progression. Of course since it's going to be dumbed down for console players it will naturally include all the things all the 'mods' to try and fix T:DS did within a week of it's release like loot glint, massive arrow 'trails', and fugly cyan frobbing that looks like a rendering error.
Though it could be even worse being EA... they could mate it to online only DRM since that's worked out SO well lately...
