Not just the screenshots, either:

Unfortunately, the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague and lorded over by a political tyrant

I hope rope climbing will stay in first person and those screenshots are just there to look pretty. Knowing EM, though, that won't be the case.
Anyway, it doesn't look much like the City, but the visuals seem well done for the most part.

Man, you guys are so frigging negative. Nothing I see here looks generic. DXHR showed they understand how to put together an aesthetic just fine.
Chill at least until you have something to be negative about.

Looks like they want to clone Dishonored :( It's a very good game, but copying setting to this extent is... If i didn't know these are Thief screens I would be sure that this brothel is called Golden Cat. This is ridiculous. I would add that this composite bow looks too advanced, almost like its Crysis 3 brother.
So this will be a game with plot from Dishonored, setting from Dishonored and uber bow from Crysis 3 :) I hope there won't be superpowers like in Dishonored, but modern games industry never ceases to amaze by its ... uhm, second-handness. Too little info for now.
However, this Thief game is in the works for many years supposedly. Could it be that one of the developers went to work on Dishonored instead and shared some ideas concerning design? Too bad for Thief dev team then.
One good thing is for certain - it will be way better than TDS, because, you know, TDS was an epitome of fail (mainly caused by inadequate engine and overall design direction). TDS fans, I know you don't agree, but please, let's keep this holy war outside of this thread. But will it contain something as interesting as Shalebridge Cradle, that was like a gem in a pile of pebbles?

I am waiting for the innovative 1st/3rd person switch canned animations players will be able to "experience" over and over and over again.
Also: Garrett can now take on multiple guards in his "focus" mode and gains XP per kill ;)
Enough of the negativity, let's have some hope BUT
Until they reveal the gameplay "elements" - how city/missions/movement/enemy AI are done - there is nothing to see here...move along....choffer
PS: that bow is ridiculous

I honestly am not seeing this "Dishonored clone" you guys keep mentioning. Dishonored had a very definite aesthetic with far more modern and slightly nautical design (there's a reason so many comparisons were made to Half-Life 2's City 17 when it came out).
The city and uniforms presented here are simply not that similar to Dishonored.
Also, here's a developer video:

Yeah, and that's because Dishonored was an original game! :sly:
