Yeah, I think I'll wait for inevitable wave of motion-sickness or novelty wearing off-related eBay listings to start cropping up.

Yikes! €700 is a heftier price tag than I'd expected.
Not least since that's basically US$755 (compared to the already hefty $600). I'm curious (read: scared) what the asking price will be in Swiss francs.
Edit: Oh, irony of ironies - it ain't even available for preorder in Switzerland. I'll now go and cry into my chocolate and cheese.

Wow, 600 bucks? Talk about a niche market. Remember how upset people got when Sony announced the PS3 was going to start out at that price? And that was for an entire gaming console, not for an unproven accessory. Man, not sure what they're hoping for here besides a real narrow slice of gaming fanatics. I don't think Zuckerberg is going to get his 2 billion back.
Am I remembering wrong, or weren't they talking about a $200 price point not so long ago?

Nah, IIRC the OR guy talked about them hoping to sell them at $350, but that was a while ago. More recently he was pretty frank that they wouldn't make that price point, though he didn't mention specifics. He did say, though, that if th Consumer Version hardware weren't subsidised, the thing'd cost $1000.

That is more recent and more official than I remembered, admittedly.

That's a pretty big ballpark.

I suspect the Vive is going to be around the same price, and the better value for money. They've been saying for a while that it was probably going to be a bit more than the Rift since they viewed room scale as the more premium VR experience, but they were saying that when all the public statements from Oculus indicated they were targeting ~$400. They also probably have better economies of scale since they have the existing relationships with all the hardware manufacturers in their supply chain, while Facebook is totally new to this.
On the other hand, HTC may see this as an opportunity to bump up the price on the Vive since they're not doing so great as a company and need all the money they can get.

I'm a bit suspicious of the Vive and other less transparent players. I think they might be having more technical issues than they're letting on. The Rift has been through several relatively public iterations, and all the players are benefitting from it to a degree, but to what degree?
