I have to say that the illusion of grabbing something has generally been spot-on for me using the various Oculus Touch controllers - provided that the game actually uses the grip button for this. There are a couple of games that use the trigger for grabbing, and these feel immediately, entirely wrong, to such an extent that I wonder if anyone ever playtested these games. (I suspect that they're mainly games that were made and tested primarily using other headsets such as the Vive - which is no excuse for something this fundamental.)

Having only ever used the original Oculus Touch controllers with my original Rift, I get the feeling that Oculus knocked it out of the park with those controllers.
Personally, and from an engineering perspective, the thing I loved the most was the magnetic battery cover.
But I would hope that more modern controllers have rechargeable batteries... is that correct?

The Index knuckles are rechargable via USB cord, yeah.

@henke - Hate to state the obvious, but you ever consider picking up a Quest 2? The wireless part (for both PC and standalone games) works great, and the ease of use you mentioned (going in and out of VR) works super smooth too. As far as comfort goes, once I bought the elite strap for mine, I barely even notice the thing's on my head (you know, expect for the cool gaming stuff going on inside it). I've never used an Index, so I can't say how the controls compare, but I don't feel like anything is lacking there.
Keep in mind though, my only other VR experience is with PSVR, so of course the Q2 is going to seem great when compared to that, but I do really like the headset overall.

I think there must be something about certain skulls... I've almost only heard good things about the Quest 2 with the Elite Strap, but I'm not finding it particularly comfortable myself. It's a great headset otherwise, in particular now that it works pretty well in wireless mode, but in terms of comfort I've always found the original Rift and the Rift S best. But, again, I've only heard good things from others about how comfortable the Quest 2 is if you're using the Elite Strap, so it's likely I've just got a faulty skull. It'd explain a lot.

Naaah I'm not getting a Quest 2, buuuut there's rumblings of them unveiling a Project Cambria (aka Meta Quest Pro) next month. Hmm!
Renault on 19/9/2022 at 17:53
I'm sure it'll do gaming too, but I think Cambria is the super high end (like $1500) headset that Meta wants to introduce for Enterprise usage and incorporating their multiverse (whatever that is) and/or for AR. Their next actual dedicated gaming headset is likely going to be the Quest 3, probably out next year.
henke on 19/9/2022 at 18:20
Ah, didn't realize it was that high end.

Btw, the airboat section of Half Life 2 is amazing in VR, as long as your stomach can handle it.

Did you play it in third person or in cockpit view? I know it's different for everyone, but myself, I have much less of an issue in VR if I'm sitting in something cockpit-like, regardless of how much the whole thing moves. It's more intense, obviously, if there's a lot of movement, but having a relatively fixed visual point of reference changes everything.
