All we really have to go on is what Zuckerberg said:

Oh it'll be so convenient, you won't even need to log in! The new Oculus headsets will just scan the Meta barcodes we'll all be required to get on the back of our heads!

I'm guessing it will be basically the same thing. I have to hope that by saying "you don't need a Facebook account anymore," they don't just mean "but you will need a Meta account." That would just be obnoxious.
That seems like a given. If I understand correctly, the social media platform will still be called Facebook. That's not the thing getting its name changed. A "meta account" would be an account not used for social media. Who knows if it would change anything about how they track you behind-the-scenes, though.

The year is 2053. A little prick comes out of Oculus Next and pinches your neck. A drop of blood leaks out, immediately swallowed by the prick. After a few seconds, you get a verification message. Congratulations - you have successfully logged into Oculus Next!

Over the last couple of weeks I've got back to playing in VR. I wasn't sure if I was perhaps over it to some extent, but no, I'm really enjoying it yet again. I replayed Lone Echo, which still has the best locomotion in any VR game IMO, and I'm greatly looking forward to playing the sequel before long. However, I'm now replaying Half-Life: Alyx (all wirelessly, thanks to Air Link) and it is an immensely cool, immersive, well-designed game. I'm playing it with Natural Locomotion, which lets me walk around by swinging my arms and walking in place, and it's not perfect, but I am liking it a lot.
Other than that, I've also returned to DIRT Rally 2.0, and it's exhilarating and anxiety-inducing in equal measure. The visuals are a tad muddy in VR, but the lighting and the difference in how it feels to drive during the day or at night, especially if some of your headlights are busted and it's also raining? I'm enjoying it so much that I find myself wondering sometimes if it wouldn't be worth getting a wheel just to play this. But tracks with a lot of elevation changes, in the woods or next to an incline, at night - hurtling down these at high speeds is more stressful than Dark Souls at its toughest.

I tried Lone Echo on the Valve Index via Revive recently, but it keeps crashing at a specific point early in the game. Doesn't give me much confidence the sequel will play well with Revive so I'll wait till I have more appropriate hardware before playing it. Also played a bit of Beat Saber via Revive but it's got some issue where controller vibration will cut out after a while, which is very detrimental to the game's feel.
Also trying out some VR minigolfing. First I tried Golf It, but it's pretty obvious this is a non-VR game with a VR mode bolted on. Doesn't play well at all. After that I got Walkabout Mini Golf on the Quest, and it's pretty dang good! Has lots of neat features, like automatically orienting you the right way when you spawn over to a ball, and the way your golf club shortens or lengthens depending on your height/stance. The presentation is also really slick, and I like the way you can instantly grow into a giant and survey the entire course like it's a miniature.

I talked up Walkabout earlier this year, it's awesome. The base version now has 8 courses, and the 1st of 4 new "Lost City" courses comes out on Nov 18th for 3 bucks (guessing all the DLC courses will cost the same). Would love to get a TTLG mini golf meet going sometime (I go by Bosskman on The Quest). FYI, multiplayer works between all versions.

Yeah I can imagine it being fun in multiplayer. I'd be up for that! :)
