There's a method to play a sound without soundschema browser? - by massimilianogoi

I've only recently started writing an FM and have been trying to place some sounds into the map. However, as I cannot find Sound Drone anywhere on the Internet it's a very slow process trying to find the right sound for the job!
I've successfully managed to get ambient sounds working and emitters all seem to make their correct sounds. However, if I use triggers scripts to play a sound schema at an object location it is not heard when I test it. I know the trigger scripts' conditions are working as I can produce visual effects in the actions but the sounds are always muted.
Any help is much appreciated.
PS: Many thanks to Komag - a truely awesome tutorial without which I would never have felt capable of doing an FM.

There goes the sound drone: (

As for the sound problem, it's hard for me to tell what it is. I tried to play some spooky sounds behind the player's back in CCC, and succeeded. Don't remember the exact script, though...
As it goes for Komag's tut, it's great, but not free of mistakes. For example:
- If you're making skybox, don't use fake backdrop feature in surface properties, otherwise you'll get no lightning or some other rendering problem. Just use BF invisible texture.
- In final packaging, you don't need textures (except for those created within UTX folder, they're for custom emitters), scripts, flags, static meshes zipped in the package, they're "baked" within the map. You'll certainly need maps, books, conversations, custom sounds (if you have them) and custom loading screens. It's also safe to add your the system/shaders folder, if you have custom textures in your fm.

Many thanks I'll get working on the sounds and check my BF textures for "Fake Backdrop" flags...

Click a surface, any BSP surface, to select it.
Rightclick, select "Select All surfaces" from the list, then bring up the surface properties - if you've used the Fake Backdrop flag it will show grey in the tab. Click on it until it doesn't have a tick at all.
That way, you've unchecked every use of the flag without having to through the level looking for it:thumb:

I haven't experienced any problems with it at all, although I'm not sure which difference I have to look out for. Fake backdrop or not makes a difference in your ablility to collide with the not-rendered surfaces, but my only problem with skybox stuff like this is that high buildings disappear after a while when I don't see their base anymore inside the zone I've just left. It looks a little randomly, but I'll have to think of it later.
However, where is the real problem with fake backdrops?

Thanks, I was able to get it from the new location.
