Like GBM said, I'd say it was more the fact that the devs have been posting in the larger forums themselves instead of the rarefied atmosphere of an announcement-only thread. You're reading a little too much into a structural change.

Yes, I get his point. But I don't think I'm exaggerating if I look sceptically at at the possibility of future sequels to LGS-related games. Even if the copyright holders decide to make sequels (I'm thinking EA and SS3 here specifically), they give the job to studio which would barely care about TTLG community, most likely they'll be ordered to focus on entirely new audience.
Perhaps Levine would come back to collect ideas for possible Bioshock 2, but what else? Smith and Spector have moved to completely different projects and rights to their baby games are out of their reach - and maybe even out of their interest (at least I'm almost sure that Smith considers Thief series to be ended for good).
