One of my flatmates used to have a cheap sampler/keyboard. We would record our full names, play them backwards and learn how to say them properly in reverse. Then we'd record our backwards names and then reverse them so that they sounded hilariously mispronounced.
My first name backwards is "Neb" and it kind of stuck.
Fantastic! I dig that stuff. Goofy fun, more interesting than Pig Latin. I was doing some of that myself, after hearing the backwards speech of the Mud Men in the old Flash Gordon serials. Later, I found out Ben Burtt was wanting to do that for some alien speech in Star Wars, but it wasn't very economical.:cheeky:
RavynousHunter on 17/1/2009 at 22:06
My name's an amalgamation of two of my favorite things:
A Movie:
Ravenous (slightly misspelled, of course)
A Game:
Hunter: The Reckoning (Nothing beats good ol-fashioned zombie killin!)
The first time I used this name (I forget where), it was just 1 character too long to be "legal," so I shortened it down to RavynousHunter, and it's stuck ever since.
However, I do have a few other nicks:
* Tyrant (first and oldest, since I played Ultima Online back in like... '98)
* Tyrant the Destroyer (used in BF: Vietnam and others, when I was allowed such a long name)
* The Destroyer (from my NoX days, mostly.)
* Gemini (from a Magic card, Gemini Engine)
* Hagunemnon (Epic creature from D&D, a shapeshifter that can't hold a single form for more than a minute)
FYI: This is a Hagunemnon.

Queue on 18/1/2009 at 02:43
"Queue" is actually one of several pseudonyms I write under in real-life, but the nickname goes back to around 1992. At the time, I was part of a local writers' roundtable that met in an East Lansing tavern. When each meeting came around, I'd come in, place my belongings on the table, immediately excuse myself, and make a bee-line for the bar. Once one of the guys remarked, "There goes John Queue again, taking his spot at the bar."
I liked it, and have used it ever since for a screen name--though I have seen other "Queues" pop-up over the years. I can honestly say that I only use 'Queue" at TTLG and Shalebridge Cradle.
As for writing, I started using the pseudonym recently to write in a certain genre. Currently, Queue is working on his second novel.

Darn!! I thought it was because the women all queued up to spend time with you. I should have known it was liquor based! :laff:
TheGrimSmile on 18/1/2009 at 17:55
This is a fun board :D
My name came from a smiley face I made. Well, first, my sister always used to draw these goofy little smiley faces (basic two verticle lines and a mouth) and always added a bubble-y looking, three-fingered peace sign to it. I, trying to make something cool, tweaked that design so that the mouth was pulled more into a lopsided smirk, the sticking out toungue turned into an enormous fang, and added a hand on the other side that held a scythe. (This was quite a while ago, mind you)
Looking at my creation, I decided that it reminded me of the Grim Reaper (well, the scythe part anyway), which is where I got The Grim Smiley from (because it was a smiley... kinda) Of course, when I tried to enter that name into web game or something, there wasn't enough space, so I had to get rid of the spaces and the final "y", creating TheGrimSmile. I've used it for a lot of things ever since...

I've used the "SiO2" handle for many, many years. It stands for Silicon Dioxide - the stuff CPU's ("silicon chips") are made from. Well, they were when I originally used the name. :D
Heck, and it's nice and short too at just four characters.
BTW I know the "2" should be a superscript like this: SiO². Hold down Alt and type "2", "5", "3" on your numeric keypad. :cheeky:
Call me a nitpicker, but shouldn't it rather be a subscript? ;)
As for my nick, it's a abbreviation of my surname, invented by an old friend of mine about 18 years ago. Simple, really :)

I suck horrendously at coming up with decent user names. When I was creating my account, my fingers hovered over the keyboard for about a minute before I finally decided to just use the next song title that popped up in Winamp.
Which, of course, was "Pride assassin" by Napalm Death. :p

...and the prize goes to...Volca! :thumb:
Congratulations on spotting that: the chemical symbol should have a subscript, not a superscript. I've used a plain "2" for ages as I can never remember the ALT-key combination. :erm:

So I actually do remember something from the chemistry classes!
(But don't come to me asking what the molar mass of SiO2 is :) )
