Wow, talk about resurrection, Lazarus!
Anyway, since this is now back in the number 1 spot on the chart, I might as well pollute it further (it's Friday night here and I'm kinda bored after the parties).
I got my nick in Sniper School during my National Service days, or should I say, 'nights'.
Yup, I could creep up behind that enemy platoon commander at night after stalking his platoon for 5 days and still, he didn't notice it as I pointed my rifle at his head and proclaimed him KIA.
Funny thing is - till this very day, he still thinks that he was hallucinating back then. Some called me 'Ghost' but I reserved that for my character in Baldur's Gate.

Oh, well, normally when people ask me why I'm called Cypher, I say it was a long story...but...
Long ago, In a galaxy far away...I was 12 years old. (yes 12). (Turning 13 in 2 months). Somone told me to go to a Pokemon chat room, so we could chat (I CAN'T BELIVE I ACTUALLY LIKED THAT POKEMON CRAP! <img src="frown.gif" border="0"> <img src="graemlins/shake.gif" border="0" alt="[Tsk Tsk]" /> ) Anyway, I talked with him...blah blah blah. Well, I never actually talked about pokemon, but I still went on to the chat room. There was an english room and a Japan room, but both rooms were english...OK. THe Jap chat was filled with Anime fans, talking about Dragon Ball Z (good stuff) and other anime (the good anime, NOT pokemon). English chat eventually ended up the same. One of the things about the chat, was it was a CGI chat, that posted as an HTML page. Plus, this was a few years ago, so it was easy to manipulate. You could change the background color with Javascripts, because you typed your message/e-mail in a form box (like this one), you could actually finish the tag by entering "> as my e-mail. THen I could add in whatever Javascrupt I want. My first HTML project was something that I actually took over from someone else, a "ChatMaster". It was a separate HTML page, that, allowed you to change your chat name whenever you wanted, and change your pokemon pic, and its size (even though noone used them...you could put in a <IMG> tag and align it left, so it sat beside your text and looked like it was your pokemon replacement pic). Anyway, you could also "clone" someone. You could say somhting with their name, like "I suck", on a Javascript command. So you post a link, and whenever you click it, it tells the server to add a message to the page, saying I suck. Pretty funny. Then, we discovered that the message was given to the server by the URL, and you could just edit the URL (all the garbage) to say the name message etc. and press enter and the page would load with that person saying "I suck". Then, we realised what the garbage beside everyone's name was, it told you their IP, to EVERYONE, but you needed a program to decode it from garbage to numbers. Thats when the hackers showed up. With NetBus and apps like that. Well, I was looking for a new name, and since I was good at manipulating the site, things like that, they named me Cypher (not quite sure why "Cypher" but hey did.) Ever since then, I've been Cypher. This chat has since been taken offline (due to the above), but it was good fun. People stopped talking about Pokemon on it after the second month, and there was actually a few marrages on it. Crazy.
Well, that's my story. (Has anyone been to the chat?). I don't know the URL anymore, it would just say that it doesn't exist. (If anyone was on that chat, I was C.Netrix)
That's my $0.02 cents (Actually, that should be $2.00 dollars!)

I'm generally rather quiet, just don't have anything worth saying most of the time. And I use to run a sound mixer board, I was the "sound man." Eventually a few people started calling me the "quiet sound man." I droped the last word and started using it as a nick online. I've only run into one other person with the same name so far.

Whenever I come across another Cypher I act like it's an evil twin brother, then I get his e-mail, and we play MechCommander online together.

I was just reading through this, and this forum, and this game, seems to have the most female players.

"Kaleid" is a b-side to the single "Policy of Thruth" by Depeche Mode...

I love...raptors. Hawks, falcons, eagles, kites, owls. If it has wings and it's dangerous, it's my cup of tea
