Like everyone else I've been waiting hopefully for a new patch that will address some of the myrid of bugs in TDS, and a couple of things have occured to me.
The AI difficulty bug was so serious that they had to release a patch for that ASAP, which they did, but it was only released for the PC version of the game, as it could be released essentially for "free" as a downloadable file.
Releasing a fix for the XBOX version would require a new CD to be mastered and pressed, and distributed to stores, with unsold versions returned etc, something that Eidos probably decided wasn't worth the trouble for one bug fix when a whole host of other bugs remain as well. (Including crashing bugs)
I'm guessing that Eidos wants the devs to bring out a fixed version of the XBOX release that fixes the AI difficulty bug, plus a number of other bugs (which ones are anyones guess, but some of the AI bugs would be a nice start) but has given them ONE chance to get it right, because remastering and redistributing a CD would be a fairly expensive exercise, and they wouldn't do it a third time.
Therefore my theory is that the delay in a second patch is because the devs know they have to get it right because this time it will be used for an XBOX re-issue as well, and if they miss anything or screw anything up at the last moment this time they wont get a chance to fix it again. (At least for XBOX)
If this is the case then they're either fixing quite a large number of bugs, or doing a LOT of testing this time :cheeky: (or both)
Fingers crossed.

Eidos were willing to do a patch for the Xbox version of TDS when they were doing the PC one, however Microsoft would not recertify it.

Eidos really messed that up. I don't know why they couldn't hold off the Xbox version for a few weeks to see if any bugs prop up in the PC one.

I doubt that is the case. More likely Eidos didn't want to pay what Microsoft asked to recertify it.... (it was probably an exhorbatant amount of money for one bug fix) It's unlikely Microsoft would have recertified it for free :thumb:

Don't doubt.
Let's just say that David probably KNOWS that to be the case via ISA empoyees and leave at that, ok?

When I say something with conviction it is usually because (

CatsClaw works for Eidos in the USA who did some work on Thief 3 (with a credit in the manual no less!), a huge Thief fan and a friend of TTLG - you can trust his word.

couldn't they update it over xbox live, or is that something else.
David on 14/1/2005 at 06:37
I believe that requires the game to be Xbox Live! compatible. Also Microsoft would still need to recertify it.

Some of those bugs were pretty damn basic. That's some freaking lame QA.
