My friend has recently recommended "Thief 2". So I went and downloaded the demo of "Thief 2" from "http://download.cnet.com/Thief-II-The-Metal-Age-demo/3000-2095_4-10037972.html"(exclude quotation marks). The installation went through fine, but when I attempted to play the game I only got a black screen. However, I could hear the game playing and when I moved my mouse I could hear the pointer passing over the start menu options, I could even click on them and hear the game run and respond properly. I tried to change my screen resolution and that didn't work, then changed my color mode to 16 bit(true color) and it didn't work either, then I tried to run the game in compatibility modes and none of them worked; then I tried to change the amount of processors I use for the game and that didn't work. Though it should be noted that when I pressed CTRL+ALT+DELETE I could see the menu working just fine while the task manager came up.

Thief 2 will not work correctly when running with multiple cores. You might try installing ddfix (it includes a multicore fix) and see if that fixes the problem. Your graphics card might require ddfix to run the game anyway.
