apparently the next-gen patch comes with all the DLC in any case.
Wait, so they're giving the two expansions away for free? Cuz those are the only premium DLCs.

Had to do some googling to find some answers, but (
https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/14/23457988/witcher-3-ps5-xbox-series-x-s-upgrade-ray-tracing-release-date) according to theverge.com, they are indeed giving the DLC away for free. Not only that but there's some new content too. :)

The next-gen patch for The Witcher 3 will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC on Wednesday, December 14th. If you already own the base game on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One (any version will do, not just the Complete Edition), you'll get the patch, which includes upgraded visuals, all of the DLC packs, and further content drops inspired by the Netflix series, for free.

I'm not convinced. They're selling the expansions a la carte, expansion season pass and GOTYE compilation right now in the Autumn sales. If they make that content free 2ish weeks right after massive sale events there's going to be backlash. I doubt that they'd want more bad PR straight after the Cyberpunk debacle.

The next-gen update is free for everyone who already owns any version of the game. For those who don’t have the game yet, a dedicated next-gen version, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, featuring all enhancements, free DLCs and story expansions: Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine, will be available for purchase digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a physical release at a later date.

This press material on Steam makes a clear distinction that the free DLCs and story expansions are separate things.

That would make sense, I think you're probably right. The way how it's written is still quite confusing though!
What free DLC has there been for the game? I've got the GOTY version so I think I've got it all.

So is anyone going to be playing/replaying this with the new update out? As I have a fuckton of free time and not much money, this will be my summer/xmas big game i think. My pc is beefier now than when i originally played it so can crank up the visuals and enjoy.

I'll definitely want to get back to the game, since I never played the second DLC Blood and Wine. At this point, I think I'll probably replay the whole game, since I remember relatively little. However, this might also mean that I'll wait until my next upgrade, so I can make use of all the RTX-y bells and whistles without major slowdown.

It introduced a bunch of stuttering and performance issues, because of course it did. The DX12 executable runs by default, which wasn't quite great for me but you'll need it for RT - and the RT is pretty demanding. DX11 runs a bit better, but it's still stutter city. They'll fix it... eventually. Probably. Hopefully.
RPS has a (
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-witcher-3s-next-gen-update-is-borked-so-heres-how-to-roll-it-back) handy guide to rollback to the previous version, which ran smooth as silk on Ultra for me before all of this unnecessariness.
PigLick on 15/12/2022 at 03:32
Yeh I've read about the performance issues, so will hold off until they have patched the new patch lol.
