I've repeatedly heard the english translations (at least the originals) are garbage and lose most of what was great about the books.

I loved the books, they kinda got me into Fantasy. Now that I read more, I see a few issues, but overall found them refreshing take on the genre that digs into unique folklore and ideas and touches on unusual subjects (even including abortion dilemma). But ya, I heard the English translations are terrible and you probably won't get as much out of it not being Polish.

It's fine. Don't fret it. Nothing I've seen you say came across as awkwardly phrased or overly cumbersome. As far as I can tell, your English is entirely natural, and perfectly fluent.
