To that end, the real antagonist in Blood & Wine, while not getting quite as much screen time, is still a compelling character
I agree, she's interesting enough and also a nice tie-in with one of the more famous Witcher short stories. It was kind of an obvious twist that she's both Annarietta's sister and the real culprit, but I don't really care much about unexpected twists. However, I seriously hated Dettlaff, didn't find anything interesting or compelling about him, and was glad he got what he deserved for destroying Beauclair for a stupid reason like being dumped and used by his ex ;p . He's like Anakin Skywalker if he walked into a Twilight fanfic and became a vampire ;p . But maybe it's just that he didn't get enough screen time to make him a cool character (just like space elf Eredin actually, who really doesn't do much apart from reciting 12 lines of cliched dialogue)Quote:
I'd say that the two expansions are as good as each-other, but very different in tone, and you'd be cutting off your nose to spite your face if you didn't buy Blood & Wine on the basis of others saying it's not as good as Hearts of Stone.
They definitely are! Blood and Wine's one of the best expansions ever, totally worth the price. The new land is beautiful, full of things to do. The sountrack is as great as always. There's a ton of awesome references not just to the Witcher books, but to fairytales, chansons de geste and Don Quixote. That section you mentioned is also one of the most amazing experiences in gaming ever. I know I kind of whine about the main quest being short and a bit stupid, but it's problably just that I wish it never ended, because Witcher 3 is just so good ;p .

Late start on the Witcher 3. I got the Witcher 2 at some stupid low price in a steam sale - £2 - but didn't get far with it.
This one is more open from the start, and pottered round the initial village. Did some detective work for the dwarf and assisted in hanging some peasant. "Witcher Sense" could have been a crap idea but it's working nicely for this tracking stuff.
I don't think the horse steering is perfect mind you, it seems to be half automatic and then go right off track arbitrarily, and I had an instance of horse failure when trying to jump over a low fence. I wasn't sure why I couldn't do that.
Comment probably came up before but this thread is too long to catch up on!

There's an excellent quest in Blood & Wine where Roach's weird pathing decisions are explained :D
It could have been cringeworthy, but it genuinely had me chuckling.

That was my big beef initially, as I kept bumping into stuff and feeling a bit too much like controlling an overly havy barrel than the swift Geralt. I finally figured I just needed to slow down a bit and it eventually became pretty intuitive. So yea, walk/explore slower would be my tip.
But the horse controls are annoying unless you stick to the paths!

I think Geralt's horse commands are an interesting touch but they're getting a bit repetitive.
