Progress report: I've made it to the island of Undvik.
One of the best location and quest in the game IMO. The first time you arrive there and just explore the abandoned parts is so eerie and atmospheric.

Am I the only person here who didn't like Gwent all that much?
Granted, I never really took the time to learn how to play it beyond the basics, but still. To me, it got in the way of that sweet, sweet open world RPG.
Pretty much this. Why would I bother with such nonsense when I can roam the beautiful forests and cities or experience the story?

Nope, same. I never got the appeal of these kinda games in games - I'm already playing a game, don't want to play a metagame on top of it. There was one quest where you can try to extort information by winning a Gwent game in a gambling den, which I lost horribly, and then just proceeded to murder everyone cause fuck this shit.
Anyway, I think I wrapped up Skellige. There's bunch of markers and two signposts I haven't explored, but I think I want to move on with the story. I've been playing this game for way too long and burning out on sidequests/marker discovering. Time to move on.

If you didn't get past the basics, then you haven't really seen why it's such good fun.
Also, with so much to explore and do, sometimes it is nice to have a little break. Even Geralt needs to relax.

I'd take it in place of combat.
There's a (
http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/953/?) mod for that.
Oh, and I hated Gwent when I first played it, and subsequently ignored it completely on my first playthrough.
However, on my second playthrough, I took the time to learn it, and ended up loving it. Persist with it, and it'll reward you.
Still think my favourite minigame in the entire series was the first game's Dice Poker though.

I started it up again on new game + a couple months back. Maybe I'll give it a go when I get back to it, around when the next expansion comes around.
But I won't do the Gwent combat thing. Hell no, The game would take about 600 hours to complete.

Ha! Of course there is.
I personally think that every dialogue option should include a game of Gwent as an option:
"Geralt, we have to close this gate to stop more of them getting through"1. "I'll handle the gate, you hold them off"
2. "You close the gate, I'll keep them busy"
3. "Gwent?"

How the hell do you have time for a second playthrough? Even one was insane.

I'm 175 or so hours into my first and have set it aside while I play XCOM2 for a bit. I think I'm near the end main plot-wise, but I've a bunch of side-quests to get through, got a fair few armour sets yet to find and the map still has tonnes of question marks on it. Plus there's the DLC. Lawks.
PigLick on 11/2/2016 at 12:44
175 hours! holy fuck and you have time to play other games as well?
henke on 11/2/2016 at 12:57
I'm glad I'm playing it on PS4, which has the added feature of not letting you know how long you've been playing it, thus decreasing your chances of feeling sorry about how your life turned out.
