Are you saying that maybe those two were playing it by ear, just seizing the opportunity? I had thought that it was implied that was
Avalach's plan all along, to
get rid of Eredin so that he could safely harness Ciri's abilities to send her to "defeat" the White Frost without risking the Wild Hunt popping in to interrupt. Don't get why it's necessary to get a whole conjunction going to achieve that, though, so I thought that maybe I missed an explanation somewhere.I get the idea that the timing was deliberate.
On the whole though, the game did a pretty piss poor job of explaining much about it....and what it does hint at appears to be a retcon of the books.

Mod tools were rushed out in an alpha state however. They probably wanted to get this into the wild before the game loses momentum (i.e. when personal time bandit Fallout 4 is released).

The Witcher
An Open Letter from Head of CD PROJEKT RED
Hey Gamers!
Time does fly! These few months since launch passed faster than you can say potestaquisitor. We’ve been hard at work delivering you new content, fixing what needed to be fixed, and secretly plotting how to rock this boat we call the RPG genre even more. We’ve just concluded our shareholder conference where we announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt family got a bit bigger -- we sold over 6 million copies of the game in six weeks since launch. Worry not, I won’t discuss any financial stuff here. I would, however, like to give you some insight on what that means to us as game creators.
One could think we have six million reasons to be happy and that’s it. We do, but that number is also a big responsibility and I want everyone to know that we, as a studio, realize that. For us, all your high praise, all the positive reviews, are also an obligation -- we’ve made a really good game but there’s still a long road ahead of us. Everyone here in CD PROJEKT RED is really attached to their work and how you, the gamers, perceive it. RED is full of artists, wild dreamers and people crazy about what they do (and sometimes just plain crazy). We lose sleep over that particular colour the sun has when it sets over Velen, and argue over arranging the furniture in a house the majority of gamers will probably never see. We’re not the kind of people who are easily satisfied and we always strive for more. I’d like you to know that.
Yes, six million copies is a great achievement for a company making RPGs, but this business is not only about that. If our games are a gallery of sound, picture and text - you are the visitors of this gallery. To an artist, there’s no sweeter sight than people enjoying their work. That’s why, in the name of all the devs in the studio, I’d like to say thanks to each and every one of you.*
Thanks!
Adam Badowski,
Head of Studio
CD PROJEKT RED

I wonder if they'll introduce "people of colour" in the expansions to appease the the clickbait astroturfers over at Polygon?

That's sexism and racism covered, then. Maybe they're saving accusations of homophobia closer to the launch of the first expansion to maximize interest.
Only a month to go! Time sure flies.

On an episode of Idle Thumbs I listened to recently, when asked if The Witcher 3 is easy to get into, Danielle Riendeau replied that it's like getting into a warm bath. That's true on many levels! Started playing TW3 yesterday and I already feel more comfortable in it than I ever felt in my short stints with TW1 and 2. Just took care of the Noonwraith in the well as practice before going up against that Griffin. The whole opening sequence is fantastic btw, the story and the characters(both writing and acting) is great.

Welp, the Griffin fight was brilliant! :D Loved the preparation and build-up. Reading about the beast and what tactics work against it and then actually using those tactics in the battle made it feel like Geralt has to rely on brain as much as brawn. There's an aura of professionalism to him you don't often see in videogames. You get the sense that with him, unlike most videogame protagonists, he's not doing what he does just for the standard motives of adventure or destiny, but because it's his job.
Soon afterwards, however, I was exploring some dungeons in search of an elf with Keira and starting to remember why I gave up on TW1 and 2 in the first place. Having to prepare yourself for fights and challenges is something that lends a lot of weight to the proceedings, but if you mess up, the game can become a real pain. I was down there in the tunnels and woefully ill-equipped for what I was facing. Loadtimes of OVER A MINUTE every time I died didn't make the experience any more pleasant either. Eventually I had to lower the difficulty just to make it though the final fight. Oh well, lesson learned, be sure to keep a good supply of health items and potions at all times, because you never know what's around the corner.

I'm still trying to drag myself through TW1 in order to play through 2 and then 3. Really hoping it's worth it.

I just skipped ahead to TW2 after TW1 looked like it was going to send me through the swamps again, and I'm the happier for it.
