I'll also say that it's the first game I can think of to have dialogue that is natural enough to benefit from having decent social skills. It's not like other games where the "nice" dialogue choice is always right: you need to be able to quickly read the type of personality you're talking to in order to get what you need out of a conversation. One good example was where
A character seemed a bit dissapointed that Geralt had bowed, as if he was expecting an opportunity to be amused by Geralt's trademark irreverenceThe rebound you can make in that conversation is almost as good, with the facial expressions being traded back and forth telling more of the story than a thousand lines of dialog could. It's obvious you ticked him off just a bit. He gives you this dead eyed sneer, and you can tell he wants to say something back, but decides it isn't worth the time or effort, and gets to the task at hand.
I don't think the facial expressions and use of body language in this game get nearly the praise they deserve.

That's one of the few brilliant things of Alpha Protocol. It really was a game about winning conversations, gathering information and using it to your advantage. It's a shame it did so poorly in almost everything else.

Renz, that's why I say I feel like the game was written by adults when most American games feel like they're written by aspie children.
Renzatic on 28/5/2015 at 17:14
I'd say most games in general, regardless of their origins. Witcher 3 stands in a class of its own in this regard.

Anyone know where I can find and chat with one of these crying women? I have a near OCD level of compulsion for not missing content in games like these, and I sure don't want to miss this.

I genuinely have no idea where you are coming from with that last part.
Incidentally - nice to see there's still active discussion going on here at TTLG - at least when the right game comes around! I'll probably join in once I'm further in the Witcher 3 and am not so spoiler-averse (though I know you guys are good at using spoilers tags :) )

Probably the same place that Renzatic is, which is being at least halfway socially competent in real life....hell I know that guy is otherwise he would have crashed and burned as a Lawyer. It's something I've noticed for a long time but haven't been able to properly articulate until recently when an acquaintance made a comment about another game to the effect that the female characters weren't convincing, but instead were written like how a socially retarded, sexually inexperienced 14 year old thinks women are like.
Besides which let me put it this way: I spent part of my undergraduate experience at a well known tech school, taking a lot of the same classes alongside the computational media students. The overwhelming majority of them were socially retarded "forever alone" types that make Michael Cera look masculine by comparison. I'd be amazed if any of them got laid while I was there(none did to my knowledge). Not coincidentally a lot of them are also the same raging idiot progressive types that leveled the complaint that the Witcher needs more colored minorities in it(which is ironic given that racial tension is not only one of the main themes of the franchise, but handled in a much more nuanced and complex way than any other game series to date).
A number of them are now making games at major studies. From what I hear most of their peers are the same way so it's not surprising that American game studios would turn out crappy writing and stilted, forced characters.
It's something that's blatantly obvious when you stop and think about it, but it's also not something that I've thought much about a few months ago when I noticed that games became exponentially more shitty in the past few years and wondered why.
Probably more of an explanation than is appropriate for this thread, but anyway.
Since I'm currently level 8 in the game, are there any sidequests that anyone would strongly suggest I start NOW to upgrade my gear? No specific spoilers please. I'm just looking to find out where I need to go on the map to start the relevant quests.

You know, I have been "laid" quite a bit over the years, done quite a bit of drugs, grown my hair long and played in rock bands. However I do believe that if I attempted to write story and dialogue for a game I would be utterly shit at it.

also in what wacked out world do you live in that 14 yr olds are labled "sexually inexperienced"? You sir, are the equivalent of dogs balls on a wedding cake.

Like I said, we're talking about adults with the social skills of a 14 year old.
Theres also something else I found out about. IGN has a list of "secret treasures" here that don't appear on the map. It's plot spoiler free: (

If you're just starting I recommend t. There's some good loot that will help you get started and its very easy to miss.

Today, there came a point where it seemed like I couldn't play the game for more than 5 minutes without the game crashing my computer. So I did what I should've done a long time ago, and did some research on it.
(
http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/28332/article/witcher-3-crash-fix-guide-for-nvidia-gpus/) Came across this.
Considering the entirely random nature of these crashes, I can't say for a fact that this actually works. It could very easily be the game up and deciding to behave like it usually does, and the settings did nothing. That said, it has run perfectly for me after doing everything in the article above, so it's worth a try if anyone here's having crash issues.
