My FB feed is getting spammed with new W3 gameplay videos grrr. Not that I dont find them cool, but I'm avoiding all media until I play the game, want as fresh and spoiler-free of an experience as possible :p

Yes, farms are characteristically complex.
I'm not as sure about the simulator but they actually are pretty complex to run. You of all people (being an expert in crop yields and all) should know that.

I've got an extra copy of the Witcher 1 to give away via Steam in case anyone reading this thread is interested.

Preloads are going up, and the reviews are rolling in! It's looking good, folks!
Oh, and is anyone on the GOG Galaxy beta here? I wanna start adding people.

Not especially. They're hard work to run and working crops takes experience and learning to get right, but not complex. Not sure I'd call myself an expert in crop yields either, I'm just better read than the average Joe on it, which != expertise.

While I don't know much about the exact specifics it can be a lot harder to run than you think. On top of the (nowadays) competitive business aspects there's a lot of science that goes into running a farm sustainably. A farm requires significant Geographic knowledge (including a GIS specialist for large farms) in order to manage issues like water flow, erosion, and sediment control...which I'm marginally familiar with from a previous job I had. They can also can require nutrient manage, which in turn requires a combination of both chemistry and agricultural skills in order to properly plan fertilization and crop rotation schedules.
Just because farmers get stereotyped as hillbillies doesn't mean that's the reality in the modern era, and it doesn't mean that all aspects of "farming" are equivalently complex or easy.

It's about damn time someone started talking about the game. I mean farming's fun and all. Sometimes even complex. But comeon. Witcher 3.
I've read three reviews so far, all of them glowing. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they tend to compare it to Red Dead Redemption moreso than Skyrim. As much as I like Skyrim, I can't see this comparison as being anything other than a good thing. Like your preview states, Red Dead felt much more alive than any of the Elder Scrolls, which tend to offer up more interesting plot and environments than characters.
Welp, I've now got it downloaded (26GB), and now the wait begins. One week to go.
