So who watched this, who liked it, who hated it, pros/cons etc? Is it worth watching now that a season is done and another is on the way.
Loved it. Moreover, the Mrs. loved it as well (which is really saying something b/c my whole life I have loved zombie flicks, but my wife is as far from that as possible). There is good character development and real emotional tie-ins for a zombie apocalypse, and my only complaint is that the first season was way too short. Supposedly they are shooting the next season starting in February.
For the virgin Walking Dead mind (i.e. me), it is a really fun series. Can't speak for someone who's read the graphic novels, however. I give this one two thumbs up and is some of the best TV I've seen in a while.

Worth it Scots. It's of pretty high quality, script isn't the usual shittrash, actors are mostly good, plot isn't nonsense (and doesn't have huge, dumb holes) and most importantly (for me) for a zombie film - they don't do, or let anyone get away with doing, the usual dead headed bs you get in productions of lesser quality that only serve to further the plot because the lazy writers couldn't think of anything better.

Not to get all long winded about this, but the real interesting part of this series (so far) is the emotional/mental aspect. At multiple points during the first season I found myself reflecting on how I would have handled specific moral dilemmas that the characters face. This is part of the beauty of this series to me... no one is of course going to be stuck in a zombie apocalypse in real life; however, there is a good amount of attention paid to decisions that need to be made in very extreme circumstances - something most people don't have to do more than at most once or twice in their lives, but it makes you think about such situations on a deeper level. Good stuff.

Yeah, that's what I like about zombie stuff; the survivalist aspect, and it's handled with much sense in this series and thus raises it a level above other zombie stuff. Reminds me of the tense situation that developed in the original Night of the Living Dead.

All their writers got sacked for the next season and In my opinion it was the right decision. The series is good, but I think the characters weren't deep enough (too stereotypical this far)and the bigger stroyline arc of the last two episodes was just shite, topped off by the crudest
CGI explosion
ever.
I also laughed how nobody cared about the black woman staying behind, but Andrea gets so much attention from Dale and others.
I don't think they've fleshed out their relationship enough for that moment to be such emotional as it should have been. I don't mind the deviations from the comic, I think they're actually a great thing, but I'm not convinced that they're heading to the right direction.

Kuuso, I never thought about that, but you are right... of course, blond white women are much more attractive and important than black women - we already learned that from TV, rite boyz?.
That said, Laurie Holden is definitely hot. But I agree with your point ;)

There was a well fleshed out background to that relationship you mongs. There was no such relationship between the black woman and anyone else.

Man, what is with all the threads these days that are all build-up and no pay-off?
So who watched this, who liked it, who hated it, pros/cons etc? Is it worth watching now that a season is done and another is on the way.
It's wildly uneven. And not in a hilarious True Blood way. There were two
really good episodes, and the other four were mediocre to terrible. The finale did not leave me wanting more.
I would happily give up any future seasons of Walking Dead if it got me a second season of Rubicon. Walking Dead isn't quite a black mark on AMC's Original Series track record, but when held up against Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Rubicon, it's definitely sub-par.

Except Mad Men went to complete boring twaddle by end of season two. Still, I think that's a good comparison because Walking Dead is unique enough to keep interest going if they too do not peter out with weak subplot resolution. I'm left feeling after most episodes that more could have been done with them but I still look forward to the next, partly because the turns are not those I would make but also because ANY story in a world ravaged by zombies and the sort of tooth and nail pants wetting survival fight individual and for the species would HAVE to capture interest and if any writer can screw that up then that's just damn pathetic.
So it still has my attention FOR ALL THE GOOD IT DOES WHEN THE NEXT EPISODE WILL BE HALLOWEEN WTF SOB.
