If they will be walking to a nearby TV around here, given their slow walking speed, I'll die before I see one coming even close.

So the first episode aired last night and I must say, it's really good so far. I haven't read the book so I can't say how faithful an adaptation the series is. There is one pretty big plot hole - how did Rick survive that long (at least a month) in a coma without anyone around to take care of him?, but it's not that important anyway. Metacritic gives it 85/100 and IMDB 9.5/10 so I guess I'm not the only one who likes it ;).

Yeah it was ok. The pacing needs to be sorted out though, at points it was reaaaaally slow. I'm all for building up story and tension but some of the early conversations with the black guy were booooring and the writing was just poor.
Some of the special effects are, surprisingly, really really ropey. The makeup on the zombie girl who has no legs and is crawling across the park was, frankly, rubbish.
As to the plothole - I did't think he was unattended for a month. A few days maybe. And he wasn't in a coma, ever. The outbreak started a month before he leaves the hospital but the hospital was obviously working in some capacity during that time.
At present I'm watching Dexter S5, Stargate Universe S2 and The Event. I've ditched Caprica because it's frakking bollocks; really, I can't imagine how wrong they got this - it has no redeeming qualities at all and the Stoltz is a total waste. I'm glad it's been canceled. I mean, Firefly? And I won't be watching any of the new V abomination when that comes back. That's a crock too, and with such a great premise. Idiots.
I'll certainly be watching a few more episodes of The Walking Dead to see how it goes. Oh, and to see how Egg gets on :p

The writing couldn't be worse than the comic. That's unpossible.
Not that I'm judging, but is there a legit way to watch this internationally? It's really hard to tell sometimes which is and which ain't and I might be out of the loop (International distro of TV drags its heels worse than cinema a lot of the time)

Hulu maybe? The writing wasn't completely awful, nowhere near as bad as the makeup. The little girl who was white face except for hers eyes that were pink around them? Come on. There were small changes I liked. The nurse in the hall, the aversion to bright light upon exit, the bodies laid out in the parking lot, the tank, those were good. They even thought to put the horse in a pasture rather than barn where it would have starved and dehydrated. The added tension of the matches in the stairwell was well done.
But why? The bastards. The lousy cruel mean hearted assholes. Who told them? Was it one of you? How did they know my favorite car is a 71 GTO? They could have trashed any of these worthless never will be a classic plastic pieces of crap produced in the last 30 years and they chose my favorite right off the bat. Within the first five minutes the sorry shitheads rolled it beyond repair. In the comic it was a crappy ass foreign truck. There is no excuse. It makes me want to key thier tin can mercedes with real wood strip dashes and shiney gauges that will be worth shit in ten years. Fuckers.

They need to cast Tom Savini in the Governor role. That is all.

Every time I hear that I just wanna get a big stick and spank people "*thwack* No, nerds. Just no. *thwack* You will give a damn about quality. *thwack* You will hope for good actors in order for this quality to happen.*thwack* You won't posit inane gonzo stunt casting about every other thing".
As far as I'm concerned it'd be bad enough if the governor was even in this thing. If he is he has to be reworked into, oh, I don't know, a realistic character surrounded by realistic characters and not crass exploitation baiting like the books.
Then again I dunno what people want. I'd swear people said they liked the comic because it was serious and long form and realitvely realistic and hope the show is the same if not better. And they then follow that up with "I can't wait til the governor shows up man! He was just so cool. He just offs people like cold as ice n' shit and you see it! They fuckin drew it, man when he gets the guy with the sword, and it was like... just there man. fuckin badass"
Yeah, it's the grounded realism they admire.
It'll be interesting to see if the show stays the course on its fairly serious goals or just gives in. If it does I wouldn't be surprised if someone just makes a cheaper exploitation knock off that the fanboys like just as much. Sort of like Spartacus: Blood & Sand is to Rome, say.

yeah, I'd dare say the character design was even based on him.
Does acting figure into this at all?
