Found a new beta FM at (
http://darkfate.iskratelecom.ru:8080/FILEARCHIVE/FAN-MISSIONs/Deadly_Shadows/_DEMO/Walk/) http://darkfate.iskratelecom.ru:8080/FILEARCHIVE/FAN-MISSIONs/Deadly_Shadows/_DEMO/Walk/
Its looking very good so far...played for about 5 mins (missing the briefing).
Also its a 7z (7zip file so I had t extract the files and stick them into a normal zip file, also I then used GarretLoader to give it a readable Readme and then installed via GarrettLoader...and its playing fine...
More playing required.

How did you "find" this then? And why haven't we heard of it before?
Edit: Cripes! It looks great. Russian eh? Wow. It's great when you find these hidden pockets of FM work, like the Japanese and German DromEd FMs.
I hope there is more where this comes from.

I actually did a search for GarrettLoader on Google...came up with german, french, hungarian, itailian and russian forums...so I babelfished the russian one and came across the link for it...
Going back to play it again.

How difficult would it be to integrate 7z support directly into GL? I have achieved some pretty good compressions ratios with 7-zip, including an archive of already-compressed files which WinZip converted into a 23 MB file while 7-zip produced a 9 MB one.

Impossible at the moment, the 7zip dll is for c++ where as GL is in Visual Basic and so can't read the DLL very well. If someone was able to re-compile the 7Zip all in one DLL (including rar,7z,zip formats) to be VB readable then I can add into GL (not sure what features the dll gives and indeed how to write the wrapper for it but I too would like to try using 7zip). One reason why GL doesn't take advantage of the 7zip CMDline tool is that GL scans the zips to determine what game the zip is for and how to process it, what files are in there, and diagnostic info on the state of the FM. However the CMDLine tool just extracts the files without allowing you to know what in them, this poses the problem that if you had 500 FMs, it would take hours for GL to extract them all scan the files to work out what they are for and then delete the files to make room for the next file to scan....it also allows the intoduction of possible trojans onto the PC (as GL will not extract dlls and exes).
However having finished The Walk FM, I am most impressed, a little dissapointed though as there were at least 2 buildings I could not get into, but found all the loot anyway.
Couple of bugs in the same place though, if you play, [SPOILER]when you are in a room with 2 chests floating off the floor (upstairs in what appears to be an inn) don't lockpick the second chest as for some reason you get stuck in the floor, you can however still get the loot by just clicking below the chest. [/SPOILER]

Hmmm, you should be able to fix the readables problem by changing the books/english to russian perhaps? ...or is it you have to change the regional settings in the default.ini...damn, i forget.

Don't know, the readmes are actually in russian but classed as french (from the extracted poet1.sch):
Code:
VERSION 2.0

I suppose T3 doesn't actually support russian.

Well, I can translate the texts to English, if someone will send me the text files and if the text isn't huge.

Oh damn, that's looking nice! Thanks for the find, potterr.
And again the words echo in my mind, "what else might we be missing?" How can this happen - we have taffers of all languages here. We need a spy network that spans all countries for exactly this type of thing!
